Ferrari 'won't supply Honda engines'

Eurosport - Mon, 12 Jan 22:57:00 2009

Formula One constructors' world champions Ferrari have all but ruled out supplying engines to whoever takes over Honda.

FORMULA 1 2008 Honda Racing Team - 0

"The chance of us supplying engines to Honda is close to zero," team boss Stefano Domenicali said at Ferrari's 2009 car launch.

Ferrari had said earlier this month that they would be prepared to supply engines to any new owners but no deal was in place.

Japanese manufacturer Honda stunned the sport a month ago when they announced they were pulling out both as a constructor and engine provider due to the world financial crisis.

The Brackley-based team, run by former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn and chief executive Nick Fry, have said they are considering some 12 serious offers with 'global players' among those interested.

However they are running out of time, with the season opening in Australia on March 29.

I agree Honda are gone.even if they can source another drive train there just is not enough time to get it ready for Melbourne as another drive train effects the whole setup of the car.

  6. justblowinoffsteam, Honda are gone completely. They have said that the already present F1 V8 and gearbox is no more and neither actual units, or even the technology will be supplied to anyone. They are cutting involvement 100% and want nothing more to do with F1 after January 31st. So it isn't an option. But if you read some analysis and comments elsewhere, say Pitpass and gpnews, the Honda V8 was even further down on power than the Renault. So maybe it's no bad thing they won't supply it.

  12. With 10yrs inside knowledge and Ferrari engines at his disposal, R.B. would be a very powerful and dangerous advisary.

  13. There's obviously something going on, last week it was "no problem, we'll help out our old mate Ross he's one of the family" now its "Zero Chance"
I suspect there's a viable rescue package on the way and Ferrari perceive it as a threat, of course that's just speculation & my opinion SlimJ. I would in no way wish to represent it as fact as I have absolutely no proof to support it :-)
