Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson hit back at Liverpool counterpart Rafael Benitez, describing the Spaniard's extraordinary verbal attack on him as 'ridiculous'.
Benitez accused Ferguson of getting away with comments about referees during a four-minute monologue, also saying the Scot was nervous because Liverpool are top of the league.
After United thrashed Chelsea 3-0 on Sunday to close the gap to Liverpool to five points with two games in hand, Ferguson dismissed Benitez's comments.
"Well, I think you've got to cut through the venom of it," Ferguson told Sky Sports.
"Hopefully he'll reflect and understand that what he was saying was ridiculous.
"I think he was an angry man and was disturbed and that's all I want to say about it.
"At this moment in time I just want to concentrate on chasing the leaders who are Liverpool."

most of these letters are from people suffering Hysterics,, slow down lads,
let us look at the facts,
Motor way toilet...could anyone get away with that,,only Fergie..
Smash a brand new car up,,was he checked for using a PHONE,?? MANC Player
funny Parties....ask Ferdinand,,
So on, so on etc etc etc,,
The normal Footie fan know and accept this as the Norm.
What I would like to see is,,,the rest of the Premier League Managers stand
up and be COUNTED,,,I know they could get into lumber if they oppose Fergie.
also....someone should write a book on Fergie and his team,,,Now that would be a best seller...
seee uuuuu jimmmy fooking tipical hoooever would of taught ...liverpool @#$% and @#$% old keegan benitez remember the armada?
I honestly think rafa said what everyone wants to hear and say.SAF is a great manager but he feels the premiership evolves around him,but i feel rafa might be the one not smiling when United win the title as liverpool have not got that habit to grind out results when the are bad.
Ferguson is a tipical Scott: Feels free to pass comments, of all sorts, about anyone he pleases, disregarding hurting the feelings of hooever. But when is time to take a bit of crticism, he can´t teke it!!!!
How onfurtonate, for a Sir!!!!!
Rafa sounds like he is losing it, the pressure must be mounting! and look what happens they slip up against stoke ha ha the gap is closing and the reds will be there again to claim 3rd premiership win in a row ha there is no stopping manchester united best team in england best team in europe best team in the world right now!
Bikerdon the fanny, you're a bawbag, !!! :o)

Well, Rafa Haggis, we'll see how 'up for it' you are when you're 65 & some drunken 30 year old @#$% comes up to you & kicks you in the @#$%.
Erse.

standard cyber c aint counting his chickens as a scouse fan....really?..lol..the clucking from anfield gives the game away...sheer panic!Even the players think raffa wierdybeard has 'lost it'...(see article'you cant handle the truth')..if you cant stand the heat wierdybeard am sure thery might like your spanish style in Spain!..bye bye raffa!
Lets face it the scouse are as again missing the point ...wierdybeard has ranted and shot himself in the foot...you would have thought that after nineteen years without winning the league they would have had plenty of time to learn that you need a good team, a good manager, and some hope ...before you try to beat fergie at the mindgames.....no trophies and its bye bye raffa....so i guess its.bye bye wierdybeard...you blew it!
The truth hurts doesn't it Ferguson, well what else did anyone expect him to say?
geo_clayton, you should calm down. You appear to be afflicted with the same "rant" sympton as your Club Manager. I have never stated that the actual competition is different. But competitions are all about playing and winning matches to arrive at the ultimate prize ie. "The Cup". If UEFA decide, as they have done, to alter the format and as a consequence different qualification rules apply and as a further consequence many more games have to be played in order to win the competition, we are not comparing like with like and there lies the major difference. It is the same competition but the playing format to win it, is miles apart from the the old European Cup. I do not have to visit UEFA to have these facts confirmed.
i work in an office you nob, i'm not a bin man like you "champ"
And briansharman go look at a picture of the trophy when Man U won it in 1968 and compare it to the trophy Man U won last year, it is the same trophy. It's a fact so stop trying to get out of the fact that you are wrong and it is the same competition.
Theres a very simple way to end this bitter Liverpool fans and bitter Chelsea fans - go and read the featured article 'you can't handle the truth' where each statement Raffa made which you are all claiming to be true, are proved to be the hot air that non-delusional football already knew. And thats why there are so many nasty bitter comments today, because SAF and ManUtd made both Raffa look silly, and Chelsea look very very ordinary (they are a plastic outfit lets not forget so it was bound to happen) in one weekend without having to try to hard and you just can't take it....as the article says; YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.
This geo clayton character obviously hasn't got a job, seeing as though he can be constantly posting. Typical scouser......
Sign on, sign onnnn, with hope in your heart. Cos you'll neverrrr get a job, you'll nevvvvvvvver a job
