Alex McLeish has revealed talks have taken place between Birmingham and Kris Boyd which could see the striker's move from Rangers revived.
The Championship high-flyers agreed a fee with the Glasgow outfit last week, believed to be in the region of £3.75 million, but talks over personal terms stalled due to both parties being some way apart.
McLeish later admitted he believed the deal was "dead" but refused to rule it out completely, and he has now revealed Blues have again spoken to Boyd and his agent, Mark Donaghy, in an attempt to secure the 25-year-old's services.
"I'm aware that they have talked to Karren (Brady) again so it's not dead until it's dead, if you know what I mean," said McLeish in the Birmingham Mail.
"But there are plans to do something else, so we will have to wait and see what happens."
Despite the fact personal terms could not be agreed, managing director Karren Brady claimed that the offer put on the table from Blues was not derisory.
Brady said: "There's not another club in the Championship, even some in the Premier League, who could offer what we have.
"It's a good deal more than he's paid at Rangers, with big benefits too if we're promoted."
Elsewhere, McLeish also revealed Blues had approached West Ham over a possible deal for centre-back Calum Davenport before his move to Bolton collapsed last week.
And he has not ruled out bringing the 26-year-old to St Andrews as he looks to bolster the club's promotion charge.
"I will have to pose the question to Karren, she had been talking with West Ham United and we left our proposal with them," said the Blues boss
"Whether they now come back to us, that's a possibility."
Birmingham have already been busy in the January transfer market having sealed loan deals for wingers Scott Sinclair and Hameur Bouazza and midfielder Lee Bowyer.
Midfielders Keith Fahey and Robin Shroot have also been signed on permanent deals.

Regarding the Union in 1707, that happened because Scotland was basically bankrupt and the English stepped in. The United Kingdom was born. I've nothing against the English, I just hate them as a race but nothing personal - ask the wife. The Scots will never like the Guffs as you have to know your history, but saying all that I do not want to see the break up of the UK as we're too small a country to go our separate ways and the UK often struggles as a collective unit, so what hope would we have as 4 different countries on the international stage? And by the way, The First Minister (Alex Salmond) has his family home in my village up in Aberdeenshire, consisting of 1200 people and is friendly with my parents. Don't agree with everything he says but he's a nice bloke.
james read your history we did not ask to part of the union thats why most scots want freedom remember that yes it was in a film james you sound very like haigy a bigot full of hate and @#$% and sent him home ward to think again remember the verse
and maybe you should go and check your spelling love and kisses paulie age 5 and a half ya fanny
