Tue 12 Feb, 11:30 PM

Partick have earned a lucrative Scottish Cup quarter-final tie at either Rangers or Hibernian, while St Johnstone are also into the last eight.Partick progressed on Tuesday night with a dramatic sudden-death penalty shootout victory over Livingston following a 1-1 draw.

Livi appeared to be on course to take the spoils at Firhill after dominating the first half and leading through an excellent strike from Graham Dorrans.

However, a late Marc Twaddle equaliser took the match to extra time before captain Alan Archibald stroked the winning penalty to give Thistle a 5-4 success from seven spot-kicks each.

West Brom-bound striker Dorrans broke the deadlock after 41 minutes when he took advantage of a static Jags defence to curl an unstoppable 18-yard shot into the top left-hand corner.

Livi appeared content to hang on to their lead after the break while Partick struggled to create many clear-cut chances.

However, seven minutes from time, Simon Donnelly's corner found Twaddle rising above the visiting defence to power a header high into the net and take the tie to extra time.

St Johnstone are also in the last eight as they recorded a 1-0 win at Ross County thanks to a bizarre goal.

The goal arrived in the 14th minute when County goalkeeper Tony Bullock sliced a backpass from Martin Scott across goal and Liam Craig nipped in to tuck the ball into the net.

Andrew Jackson came close to making it 2-0 in the 22nd minute when he burst through the middle but his shot flew wide of target.

County's best chance of the first half fell to Alex Keddie nine minutes later but he headed narrowly over from 12 yards.

The home side tried their best to get back on level terms in the second half but the nearest they came was successive efforts from Andy Dowie and Andy Barrowman which were cleared off the line.

St Johnstone will be at home to either St Mirren or Dundee United in the sixth round on Saturday March 8.
