German Gerald Ciolek of Milram won in Palmanova, with Columbia duo Edvald Boasson and Marcel Sieberg getting second and third in a photo-finish.

Pineau came ninth at the end of the 146.7km ride, which started in Magaluf, with the same time as Ciolek.

But Katusha man Colom did enough in the fourth stage when his lone break gave him an unassailable lead.

STAGE FOUR

Spaniard Antonio Colom won the Trofeo Inca to take the overall lead after the fourth stage of the Tour of Majorca.

The Team Katusha rider's time of 3:54.59 on the 143km stage was a full 56 seconds ahead of a chasing group of four including Edvald Boasson (Team Columbia), Jerome Pineau (Quick Step), Sylvain Chavanel (Quick Step), and Maxime Monfort (Team Columbia).

The impressive Colom launched a break at the head of 10 riders and attacked again on the Soller as the group broke up on the climb.

He coasted home clear of the other riders.

France's Pineau is second overall, 41 seconds behind Colom, with Norwegian Boasson and Frenchman Chavanel joining Pineau in terms of time.

STAGE THREE

Liquigas star Daniele Bennati won an enthralling sprint at the end of the 182km third stage of the Tour of Majorca in Puerto de Alcudia - and with it took the overall lead.

Bennati beat Dutchman Tom Leezer (Rabobank) and Jérôme Pineau (Quick Step) into second and third place after pipping a group of forty-plus riders to the line by a second.

A crash in the final kilometre had earlier brought down team-mate Bennati's team-mate Manuel Quinziato, Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) and Manuel Vazquez (Contentpolis).

Bennati profited from the final bend crash to take the slenderest of leads into Wednesday's stage in Bunyola.

STAGE TWO

Robbie McEwen made it two wins out two for Katusha by winning the Trofeo Cala Millor-Cala Bona in a sprint finish.

McEwen was runner-up to Belgian team-mate Gert Steegmans in the opener but had too much speed for Australian compatriot Graeme Brown at the end of the 176.5km route.

Andalucia-Cajasur's Javier Ramirez attacked on the Coll d'Esquerda with 30km left but was caught with 13km remaining to set up the sprint finish.

McEwen also took the overall lead in the race which is a collection of 'trophy races' that riders can opt in and out of. Only the riders who complete each of the five stages are awarded an overall classification.

STAGE ONE

Team Katusha dominated the opening leg of the Volta Ciclista a Mallorca Challenge with Gert Steegmans crossing ahead of Robbie McEwen in the Trofeo Mallorca.

The Russian squad, along with Rabobank and Columbia, worked hard to bring back a breakaway and then Steegmans launched the sprint with Aussie veteran McEwen on his wheel.

With the pair clear of Jose Rojas and Graeme Brown, McEwen opted not to try to overtake his team-mate.

The 18th edition of Mallorca event includes five separate races: Trofeo Mallorca, Trofeo Cala Millor-Cala Bona, Trofeo Pollensa-Puerto de Alcudia, Trofeo Inca and Trofeo Calvia.

Although there is a general classification the 19 teams will divide their roster differently for each race as they begin their seasons.
