Russian star Vera Dushevina begins her new Eurosport blog with a look back at the Australian Open - and gives thanks that she's not a footballer.

So that's the first of the year's Grand Slam tournaments completed. My new rating is 77th in singles - which I don't think is too bad - and 51st in doubles.

One way or another, there's a lot of work in store for me if I want to pull my rankings up further.

First place in the rankings? Serena Williams, and it's fully deserved because she played amazing tennis. To win both the Australian Open singles and doubles titles is incredible: she truly is the absolute champion, and congratulations to her.

It's a shame that my compatriot Sveltana Kuznetsova lost to her in the quarter-finals - otherwise Australia could have been ours! Oh well, one day.

I didn't believe my eyes the other day: the thermometer hit minus 23 degrees here in Moscow! Totally freezing! It means I can't wait to get on the plane to my next tournament in Pattaya, Thailand and from there I'll head to Dubai.

The weather will go to the other extreme in both places: from cold to heat and humidity.

Still, it sometimes makes me glad that I'm not a footballer. I don't think it'd be nice playing in that sort of cold. Mind you, at the moment our Russian footballers are all nice and warm as well since they'll be off training somewhere like Egypt or Israel.
