David Beckham equalled Bobby Moore's England record of 108 caps for an outfield player when he came on as a substitute at the start of the second half of the friendly against Spain in Seville.
England coach Fabio Capello brought on the LA Galaxy midfielder, who is on loan at Milan, to replace Stewart Downing but he was unable to prevent his side going down 2-0 to the European champions.
"I've always said I would be honoured to be up there with the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore," Beckham told ITV.
"I've always worked hard at my game and always worked hard at what I enjoy doing and I have had some great managers along the way who have had faith in me - and I'm enjoying my football.
"As long as I am enjoying myself and keeping fit, it's what I love doing and I hope to continue."
Beckham, who turns 34 in May, has been on good form during his loan spell in Italy and is due to remain with Milan until next month. He has said he wants to stay on but Galaxy have rejected a first offer from the Serie A club.
He put in a typically energetic performance against Spain, but his evening was tainted when he was booked for protesting a decision and was roundly booed and whistled by the Spanish fans.
A superb cross-field pass from Beckham gave Shaun Wright-Phillips a goalscoring opportunity while a neat dribble and pass put Carlton Cole clean through on goal but the West Ham striker saw his shot cleared off the line.
Beckham said the game was more important than his appearance record and the England players were disappointed they did not put in a better performance.
"They were always going to bring pressure on us, they always keep the ball well and pass it around well," he said.
"They got two good goals - the first one was a good finish, overall maybe they deserved it. We'll move on."

i just can't believe beckham wore number 17,omg he has to wear 7,i wanna see him in a N.7 shirt..................plz.............david ,wear N.7 .............
he shoulD came as a starter to wear N.7,I know,.......... but he is an exception........plz.......N.7 ............
Steven J, are you scottish by any chance? Well done Becks, the real football fans in the WORLD applaud you. A great role model for all, he kept bouncing back didnt he? Get up dust yourself off and carry on, the real Bulldog spirit!
to buddyinlondon or is that becks buddyinlondon becks is the shirt shifter thats why hes picked not for his skill even hes said hes gone into matches unfit but hes been in the team because his talent is making money and thats all the game is about now
I can't believe all the cr@p I am reading. You worthless bunch of shirt shifters wouldn't even be good enough to clean the mans boots. Why does everyone focus on the media hype that surrounds Beckham. Don't you people realise that if the man didn't have qualities, he wouldn't have been picked as the team captain let alone played for the England team. The problem with so many people nowadays is that they try to bring people down. If Beckham is no good, why is Milan so interested in him staying? Because he has what a lot of you posting don't have and that is quality and football sense.
to les paul no you are not the only one his % of goals against kicks taken is very low but propaganda controlled by who knows only shows the good ones
Am I the only one to think David Beckham is an overated one trick pony?? And before people go on about "his freekick against Greece that saved us" may I remind you that he had 9 other freekicks in that game that he sky'd over the bar. The law of averages state he was bound to get one in sooner or later. He is only where he is because of his looks, the fact he played for the mancs and hes married to that talentless dragon to which the media and most 9 year old girls wouldnt let drop! So stop going on about him being quality, he wouldnt get into most peoples best England 11.
did i miss something? I saw the headlines about beckham playing and only read about the score in the same article. Shouldnt England focus on winning games than feeling proud that beckham played. GREAT!!
Shame on U David Beckham! What so Great about achiving 108th caps, if u don't win anything for England. Really sickening to hear all of this about "U".
Congrats David, you truly are a hardworker. You wouldn't have gotten this far if you didn't work the way you do. You are a real team passion and your hard work is inspirational. Good try England, but there needs to be work done to fix this up
After that shameful display I hope that's the last we see of him and some of the other Chelsea Pensioners on the pitch tonight. Lazy, overpaid primadonnas. It's time for some fresh blood, players with fire in the belly who feel they have something to prove. And as for comparing himself with the two Bobbys, well do me a favour please!
waste of a cap on a dried up advertising hording
Welldone Davide we prefer to call him in curva nord at San Siro. You epitomises hardwork and deserves everything ...the accolades, money except that tiny tat call Spice something.
