Eurosport - Thu, 12 Feb 17:56:00 2009

Retired seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has escaped unhurt from a motorcycle crash in Spain.

FORMULA 1 - Michael Schumacher - 0

Schumacher, 40, was testing his Honda 1000 CBR-Fireblade German superbike at the Cartagena circuit, where he has been since Monday.

"Today I had an accident at the biking tests in Cartagena, and to be safe I went to a hospital," Schumacher said on his official website.

"The checks showed nothing and I just wanted to say that I am fine."

Sabine Kehm, spokeswoman for the racer, said: "It is only a slight concussion. Michael will fly home immediately (following his release)."

Schumacher also complained of pain in his right wrist, although no bones were broken.

His team boss Jens Holzhauer told Cologne's Express newspaper: "This was not as bad as it sounds. It was a harmless slip and a quite normal training fall. He will still fly home this evening."

The German won five of his titles with Ferrari and retired in 2006 after winning a record 91 grands prix.

  1. My God! Are we actually having a discussion about racing without the nutter throwing in his cut & paste bile...............brilliant!
Ginger, you are right wanting to see any driver injured, maimed or even killed IS just sick BUT we are dealing with a couple of really sick individuals in here. Gladly they are not out tonight or perhaps they have taken their medication.
Can't wait to the new season. All the changes make for what looks like a closer run with maybe 3 or 4 teams and drivers in with a shout (unless the FIA spoil it that is).

  2. Well said Ginger. The sad truth is that there are two types of people posting in this forum. Those of us who actually care about Formula One and want to exchange our views, and those who have pathetic lives and need to vent their own frustrations by insulting others.

  3. Actually Forza, that has been an argument of mine before. A select group of "Ferrari Fans" (and I use the term fan loosely) are a disgrace to the real Tiffosi. Equally, there are some Mclaren fans who are also an embarrassment to the Silver Arrows.

If these so called fans were real fans of Ferrari or Mclaren, and of F1, they'd be able to appreciate the fact that if you think your driver is the best you need to think the rest are pretty special too.

Given that Lewis has beaten Felipe twice in the Championship, saying he is @#$% or useless doesn't reflect to well on poor old Massa. Because if Lewis is as @#$% as these people say, how bad must Massa be that he can't beat him?

The same can be said of Mclaren fans berating Ferrari drivers for being useless or past it, because if this is true then Lewis can't be that special to have lost one and only scraped the other title.

  4. Actually, when you think about it, most of the venom thrown at Lewis comes from a handful of pathetic morons. Most "true" F1 fans appreciate his skills as a driver. As a matter of fact, Lewis is very popular in Italy, as is McLaren. True Italians are great Formula One fans and know how to appreciate a driver with skill.

  5. I think Pete Sampras is in charge of stewarding, he's used to reiceiving backhanders hahaha

  7. While I am going to take the side of those saying there's too many people seemingly thinking this was funny or deserved, I am going to point out he's still coping less flack and ill will that gets directed at Hamilton.

Wanting to see any driver injured, maimed or even killed is just sick, and while I do think this is a bit of a non-story, there's no reason to wish he'd come off worse.

  8. I agree Forza. People tend to forget that the guy has only been in F1 for 2 seasons. Everyone slags off Lewis Hamilton but lets face it, our sport was a a whole load more boring without him in it. It must have been difficult to stay poised last year with all the FIA bias don't you agree? Can't see how he kept his mouth shut after all the rubbish said about him from some of the other drivers and team bosses.
Personally, I love F1 and may the best driver win. It was the FIA that made me into a Hamilton fan. This year MUST be different or it will become a sham. Is Alan Donnelly still in charge of the stewarding?

From crispyduck, on Thu 12 Feb 5:51PM
  9. Well, Clispy, I agree with you. Lewis and Schumi have a lot in common. I would say that Schumi was a bit more poised, and he was definitely better on the technical side. It will be interesting to see how Lewis develops in the next few years.

From Forza Ferrari, on Thu 12 Feb 5:43PM
  10. Personally, I think Schumacher was a brilliant driver that got the job done and did it well. He was VERY similar to how Lewis Hamilton drives now but then again I can't see many Ferrari fan's agreeing with me on that one.

  11. Harleyboy: There's no hatred of Schumacher from me. Get your facts straight!

  12. Just amazed at the anti-schummy feeling being posted. Yes I know he did a couple of things during his career which were really apalling, but even so.....?

  18. What a true racer, showed the f1 how to be a world champion how many times, he could sit on his @#$% and do nothing, instead with racing in his blood he takes up motor bikes and is doing brilliantly at that, come on guys give him a break and admit he is a racing driver of outstanding quality, ive always supported the British racing drivers and bikers, but even i can see how good he is and im a girl, so stop all the back stabbing and think how good are you,,,,,,, oh well never mind....thats what makes you bitter.......

From jacky, on Thu 12 Feb 3:30PM
  19. Come on guys nobody deserves an accident with or without injury however badly he is disliked by some.
