Boss bemoans poor Bees defending

Wed 12 Mar, 06:00 PM

Barnet manager Paul Fairclough criticised his side's poor defending following their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of an impressive Grimsby side. The Bees - who maintained their dismal record of never taking a point from the Mariners in the Football League - have plummeted to 20th place in League Two, and Fairclough blasted his side's efforts.

He said: "We've been comprehensively beaten by a very good team. But I think we made some errors that you don't want to see on a football pitch.

"For the first goal we didn't track our runner. I then thought let's get in at half-time 1-0 because we still have a chance.

"Then in the 43rd minute there was a long throw which was flicked on and one of our defenders got pinned. And then he was rolled which wasn't great defending.

"I changed the formation, chucked extra front men on and tried to go for it. Of course the shape was all wrong because we were trying to get something from the game and they got the fourth goal."
