Hoops' SPL title hopes dented

Wed 12 Mar, 11:00 PM

Dundee United dented Celtic's SPL title hopes with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Parkhead on Wednesday night, while Hibernian beat Motherwell 1-0.Shunsuke Nakamura and Scott Brown hit the woodwork for Celtic in the first half, but they struggled to find a way through a stubborn United defence.

Craig Conway had United's best chance of the game, but he failed to score from just six yards out.

The draw leaves Celtic three points behind Rangers with their Old Firm rivals having a game in hand.

The point moves Dundee United into third place to boost their hopes of qualifying for Europe and was a real morale-boost ahead of their CIS Cup final with Rangers this weekend.

In the night's other game, Hibernian boosted their European hopes with victory over Motherwell at Easter Road.

Colin Nish scored the only goal of the game on 52 minutes to give Hibs the three points.

Hibs had to hold on for the win after Ian Murray was sent off 10 minutes from time for a second bookable offence.
