Oliver Kahn says it will be a "great honour" to have his retirement marked with a testimonial match against the German national team. The legendary Bayern Munich stopper, who turns 39 in June, has decided to call time on his 20-year career at the end of the current season.
He is set to play his final game in the Bundesliga on May 17, after 14 years at Bayern, 86 international caps and 550 German league games.
Kahn said: "It's a difficult moment for me if after 20 years I'm really finally going to end my association with German football.
"But I'll look forward to September 2, 2008. It is a great honour that the German national team and Bayern will honour me with a farewell game."
DFB president Dr Theo Zwanziger expects the tribute match to be a memorable occasion.
"Oliver Kahn is an exceptional athlete and extraordinary person," said Zwanziger.
"We wish Oliver Kahn all the best in his retirement and hope that we will all enjoy a farewell game that will live long in the memory."
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "We're pleased that we can give Oliver the send-off that this magnificent professional has earned after 20 years in German football.
"We thank him, and we also thank the DFB for allowing the national team to take part."
