Mulligan keen on Gills departure

Mon 12 May, 11:45 AM

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has revealed striker Gary Mulligan is keen to leave the club to further his career in League One.The Gills took up the option of extending Mulligan's stay at Priestfield for another 12 months last week, but the 23-year-old - who scored five goals this season - is looking for a fresh challenge.

"Gary has been very honest with me and said he wants to stay in League One," Stimson told Kent News.

"We had an option on his contract which we have taken out to keep him here for another year, so if he gets offers from League One sides they will have to talk to me."

Stimson released five players last week and has hinted there could be more out-goings over the coming weeks.

He added: "There are still one or two around us we would like to shift but they still have contracts which makes it a little harder. I'm hoping by the time pre-season comes they will have gone."
