Jones predicts tough Thruxton.

Independents points leader expects hard fight in Hampshire.

Having moved into the lead of the Independents' points standings, Adam Jones admits it will be a tall order to retain his advantage this coming weekend as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Thruxton for the fourth round of the year.

Despite admitting that Donington Park last time out wouldn't suit the Team Aircool SEAT Leon, Jones finished inside the top three of the Independent runners in each race - as well as in the top ten overall - to jump ahead of Mat Jackson and take an eight point lead in the standings.

However, like Donington, Thruxton is a circuit where a strong engine is key to success and with the Leon also lacking in aerodynamic efficiency, Jones said he felt it would be a difficult weekend on track as he seeks to stay ahead of Jackson in the standings.

"We knew that Donington was an engine circuit and we would lose out performance wise down the straights with the '07 engine," he told Crash.net. "Through the corners, the car was fine but the others gained too much between them. To get what we did was astonishing and points mean prizes at the end of the day so we were happy.

"It will be really tough at Thruxton. We were surprised to come away with what we did from Donington, but Thruxton is all power so we need to try and do something for there.

"Whatever we can come away with at the end of the day will be a result."
