Euro 2008 - Polska, bialo-czerwoni! The latest...

Eurosport - Mon, 12 May 13:44:00 2008

It seems our Euro 2008 campaign has been making waves back in Poland.

2007 Poland fans - 0

Our email inbox was inundated with emails containing a witty response suggested by the fine sport.pl website. So, thanks to everyone who sent this:

"Dear British. We've heard that you want to support Polish team during Euro 2008. Thank you, that's very nice of you, we could use every supporter there is. And it will be our pleasure to beat the Germans on your behalf also. We must add that we had a lot of fun reading your jokes about plumbing and building services. But why spoil this pleasant atmosphere? If you really want to exchange some bites, maybe we can wait untill the tournament? We'll have something, a flag maybe, at the stadium during Poland's game, and you... Well, you can decorate your apartaments and houses? Use your famous british imagination! You know, like you do in Cracow."

It's a fair cop. You send us thousands of well-educated, hard-working, honest Poles; we send you drunken stag parties and trash your town centres. Sorry about that. We love Poland. OK?

Rupert Slade writes in to let us know he is also supporting Poland at Euro 2008 and, excitingly, has written a song which you can hear at http://www.myspace.com/londontowarsaw. Jan Tomaszewski, all is forgiven.

Gary Sanderson: "I have lots of Polish friends here in the UK, have been to Krakow and will be in Szczecin this summer, I will be shouting you guys on in a Poland shirt! You were robbed in the World Cup! "

Adrian Styrna: "Come on Britains!!!!! Let's meet us at the Main Square in Krakow to celebrate this match against Germany together !!!!!!"

Ireneusz Krysiuk: "Thank you British for your support of Polish team... THANKS, THANKS OUR FRIENDS"

Tomek: "First of all thank you for warm reception but alas I think that you won't be supporting our team for very long - three matches and we go home. We play quite well in qualification but then we rest on our laurels and in addition to that many players who are being in really good shape stay at home. Mr. Leo makes the same mistakes as his predecessors drafting players for qualification merits. If it comes to the supporters I think objectively we have one of the best in the world and on the contrary to our national team we won't have to shame for them during a tournament. As a great football fan I hope my predictions won't come true and we will sing together (after match against Germany) ... you've got mud on your faces you are big disgraces ... we really rocked you :))"

Patryk Szambelan: "Who else could Brits support, as Poles play in goal for two big English clubs (and one Scottish, by the way). What's more, who else could get revenge over Croatia and put the bulky Bavarians in their proper place? Get behind us and we'll think of you warmly during the World Cup!"

Maciej Jablonski: "Heads up, Britain, the day of retribution is near. Soon Poland's Finest shall stand against the Germanic and Balkan hordes, and avenge thy defeat! And who knows - maybe this will make you think of us, Poles, as something more than cheap plumbers and construction workers?"

Arek: "Dear Brits. Used to live in the North East for one year, aye lads, awful sausage and weather, nice memories and bad ones, my girlfriend dumped me because of other guy...no no no, he's not British.... damn Greek :P Anyway.... one day at once we'll drag out all the Polish plumbers and construction workers back to the motherland and then we'll see who will be whining ;) better keep your fingers crossed for POLSKA if you don't wanna wreck your economy :P"

Marcin Rosinski: "I have been living in England for 15 years and it would be an honour for me for the English fans to get behind the Polish national team! We need all the support we can get! This is our debut at the Euro championship and I believe we have a really good chance of going quite far!!!! English fans will love to support our team - GOOD BEER, BEAUTIFUL WOMEN, FIRST GAME AGAINST THE GERMANS.......what more could they ask for!!!"

Maciej Ostrowski: "Come on all you Brits it's not all doom and gloom. You can support Poland and we all invite you to do so. We have never beaten the Germans, well not on the football pitch. But this is our chance to do it for the first time. And who does not like to see the Germans being beaten?"

Szymon Kr: "All British football fans, you have to see Croatia beaten by Polish, but the first, I am sure, exiting fight between Poland and Germany. Let's support our team - Bialo-czerwoni!! Why don't you support Leo Beenhakker's guys, they need you to spur them on!!"

g_hine: "Being from Peterborough, I am expecting a lot of Euro08 celebrations (or commiserations) come Poland's games. Would be nice to finally see them get the better of "Jerry" though (after 70 years). Cue photos in the Sun of brave Polish fighters v nasty stereotypical Germans."

POLSKA, BIALO-CZERWONI!

With no home nations qualifying, you might think nobody in Britain will have anything to cheer when Euro 2008 kicks off in a month's time.

But there are around half a million people living here who will be attaching flags to their cars and getting the beers in ahead of Poland's opener against on Germany on June 8.

With so many Polish people living in the UK, eurosport.yahoo.co.uk is adopting the Bialo-czerwoni as "our" team for Euro 2008.

Think of it as our way of saying thank you for providing world-class plumbing and building services to millions of British homes...

Starting today we will be publishing regular news and features on the team and urging Britain to get behind Poland!

Are you a Pole living in Britain, or do you just want to see them beat the Germans?
