Leeds hope to welcome back top scorer Jermaine Beckford for the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final at home to Carlisle.

The 24-year-old, who has scored 20 goals this season, has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the 3-2 home win against the Cumbrians last month.

However, he returned to training on Thursday and boss Gary McAllister said: "We're hopeful about Jermaine."

McAllister has no new injury worries, but must decide who will fill the left-back slot against Carlisle with Alan Sheehan suspended.

Bradley Johnson filled the void last time out against Gillingham but the Whites boss is remaining guarded about his team selection.

The game looks set to be a sell-out after a crowd of over 38,000 watched the final league game of the campaign against the Gills.

Carlisle boss John Ward is again without David Raven but could welcome back Paul Thirlwell.

Former Liverpool trainee Raven serves the final game of his three-match suspension but centre-back Danny Livesey will be available to replace him after serving a one-match ban.

Midfielder and captain Thirlwell could also return to action after missing most of the campaign due to a succession of injuries.

However, the game may come too soon for midfielder Jeff Smith (ankle) while on-loan defender Paul Reid has returned to parent club Barnsley for treatment on an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old, who was in his second spell at Brunton Park, has been restricted to just one appearance since rejoining the Blues in March.
