The British number one secured the spot after a 6-4 6-1 victory over Lourdes Dominguez-Lino in the final of an ITF Tour event in Lebanon.

The win moves her up to 104 in the rankings and it also represents her first career title on clay.

The last British player to have automatically qualified for Wimbledon was Eurosport commentator Sam Smyth.

"I thought I was going to withdraw from the tournament because of all the problems in Lebanon," she said after her win.

"I was ready to get on a bus to Syria but five minutes before I was due on court for my quarter-final they told us that the border was closed and there was no way out.

"I went on court with no preparation and managed to get through the match in three-and-a half hours."
