Premier League - Kroenke ups Arsenal stake

Eurosport - Tue, 12 May 11:00:00 2009

Stan Kroenke has purchased a further small amount of Arsenal shares, with the American billionaire's total holding remaining at 28.3 per cent of the Premier League club.

FOOTBALL: Arsenal shareholder Stan Kroenke - 0

Kroenke, who last year accepted an invitation to join the club's board, acquired two more ordinary shares on April 30, at a price of £6,750 each, a statement released this morning on the PLUS market said.

The Kroenke Enterprise Group are the largest shareholder in Arsenal, ahead of Uzbek tycoon Alisher Usmanov, after a recent £42.5 million purchase of stock from director Danny Fiszman and then increasing their stake with another 4,839 shares from members of the Carr family, also at the end of April.

Under financial regulations, were any single shareholder to reach a 30 per cent threshold, they would be obliged to make a takeover bid. However, it is understood Kroenke has no intentions of any such move.

  2. Am an Arsenal fan and as such can tell that AW's youth policy works perfectly for keeping the financial stability of the club. How about AW overcomes his stuborness and this time thinks about pleasing the fans more than the shareholders. Cause as a fan the fat cats sitting in the board room are not my prime concernm? Entertaining football to watch - ok, loving it, but as every fan I want my club to win. Or at least, not to be humiliated at home! Instead, lately I am bombarded with AW interviews about how much quality there is in the squad and how much they have matured and how much we should believe in them. Is it not obvious that there is just not enough quality in this squad to win trophies or perhaps not the right set of qualities to win trophies in UK? How about this time with Kroenke's money we buy footballers that can make Arsenal a european champion and not using it to cover the interest on the unsellable highbury flats.

  3. I cant see this fixation with winning some old tin We have been in the toip leauge for our entire history and nearly always at the top The game is the prize not some stupid trinket It is juvenille stuff We are going to win this or that we compete at the top of the highest standard in the world You can not win by spending money Even Chelski know that what are they going to be like next year and beyond when all there old men have to retire !!Buy more From where and what purpose Old Ruski nuts wont be dipping in after the Govenment do there enquiry into the business as they are really Bankruupt

  5. Despite all the aggro of late Arsenal, in particular AW is the best team and Manager. The style of play is great to watch which team wouldn't want a manager thats frugal? Yes you can buy success, ManU, Chelski, Liverpool by spending huge ridiculous sums. Anelka, is the best example of AW's financial abilities. Bought for 500k and sold for 22M or thereabouts. AW still is the best manager when it comes to nurturing young talent, yes dare I say it, Boys against Men in Top 4 Games but thoroughly deserving good wins elsewhere. Haven't won anything since the move, yet, but the young guns are growing well together. Hopefully next season there will be a better mix of experience and youth. Injuries have dealt us some serious blows. I don't think any of the top 4 suffered as mush as Arsenal this year with injuries? Arsenal is a very well managed Club and in very good hands, at least for now. Come On you Gooooooners.

  7. Arsenal is great, obis, you're just a fair weather fan. Arsenal is the ONLY top 4 team doing it right. Man U will eventually implode under the weight of their own debt, as will Liverpool to a lesser extent. Chelsea will go back to a mid level team once their owner gets tired of his favorite toy, which he will. Plus Chelsea are getting old, with no influx in youth anywhere on the horizon. And I'm not even a gunner, I just know when a club is being run correctly. Plus, how can anyone say they don't sign quality players, hello Arshavin!

  8. This guy is a sporting Entrepeneur. owns MLS and NHL teams in the USA- he is not a suger daddy- If he comes in and just pumps club money into transfers it would be a shame as it means he is shortsighted and not a long term investor (ask newcastle fans about mike ashley if you want to know how that turns out- newcastle have spent 5 times as much on player transfers in the last 5 years and look at what thjat has earned them)
Chelsea are the only club that are operating like that and even then they are in the books as interest free loans- so the money has to be paid back one day- investing stupid amounts of money into the squad doesnt guarantee anything. Arsenals youth policy is working - FA youth cup final- finals of the Academy league. we are producing far more talent than what can be accomodated in the first team. Most of it English!

  9. if stan kronke real cares about arsenal football club he should make as much money available to arsene wenger to buy a world class holding midfield player and a proven goal scorer as adibayor does not fit the bill and maybe two new centre backs as we will need to tough up the defence once william gallas retires and kolo toure cant go on forever
