Marshall set for Cardiff switch

Tue, 12 May 14:46:08 2009

Norwich have accepted a six-figure bid from Cardiff for Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall.

Marshall was one of the few players to perform for the Canaries as they slipped to relegation to the third tier of English football for the first time since 1959-60.

The 24-year-old is keen on a move to preserve his international career.

A Norwich statement said: "We can confirm we have agreed a fee with a Championship club for David Marshall, but there is nothing further to add at this stage. When we have anything more to announce, we will announce it."

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale revealed it is the Bluebirds who have made the offer.

After appearing for Scotland B last week, Marshall said: "I want to play at the highest level as quickly as I can. If a club came in, I would be silly to turn it down and stay in a lesser league but the right move has got to come up. Norwich need to be happy to let me go as well, so it's out of my hands a little bit."

  1. jnstev545... you have missed out on another free one. CROFT, we would of paid you to take him.

I would like to just put on record my most sincere thanks for not only taking Marshall from us but paying for him too :-) WE WISH YOU LUCK (It's like having David James in goal)

  5. This is a double whammy of joy. Not only are we getting rid of the calamitous Marshall who's kicking was abysmal but we are doing it to better his International career HA HA HA. This means the Scotland International will remain a joke too. If it hadn't been for us playing him he wouldn't even be in their B team

Seriously, Croft, DONE, Marshall, DONE excellent all the other useless efforts who couldn't be bothered to play well enough hurry up and exit our bootiful club so we can concentrate on the re build

  7. The fact that HE was one of our best players speaks volumes about our poor situation. That he is leaving, no doubt the first of many of what constituted 'the 1st team', underlines the lack of loyalty amongst the starting XI. Now is the time to rebuild! For the love of god, lets build around youth and give these players time to develop and gel. For this reason, I think it likely that we will spend more than one season in league one. What is for certain, however, is that we must use the inevitable exodus to our advantage. Anyone agree?

  9. Absolutely delighted he is going. I'll even pay for his ticket - as long as it is one way! Feel really sorry for Cardiff. Lost a million pounds last season and now buying a very poor goalkeeper. Whilst he can save a shot he consistently gives the ball away to the opposition and and can't command his area. I'm so very happy.
