Redknapp eyeing Gudjohnsen swoop

Thu 12 Jun, 02:15 PM

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he is interested in signing "top player" Eidur Gudjohnsen from La Liga giants Barcelona. The Icelandic striker is available this summer after growing tired of limited opportunities at Camp Nou, and Redknapp has confirmed he would be interested in taking him to Fratton Park.

"Eidur is a good player, a proper player," Redknapp told The News. "It does look like he is leaving Barcelona.

"If that's the case he'd definitely be the type of player we'd be interested in.

"He's someone I know and he's good friends with Jamie. He's a good lad and a top player."

Redknapp has also suggested that he is unwilling to pay Liverpool's asking price of £10million for Peter Crouch.

He said: "Crouchy is a brilliant lad and I do like him a great deal. I suppose if Peter Storrie was negotiating with Liverpool though, he wouldn't want me throwing figures around.

"We might feel Liverpool want a little too much for him even at £10million. We might want to pay a bit less, so it wouldn't be right for me to say a price."

But Redknapp has denied Pompey are interested in Djibril Cisse.

  1. Harry Redknapp what a legend, is anyone surprised he's not after Cisse? Crouchy at Portsmouth with Defoe would be the ultimate little and large strike combo
