Town take their time over McAuley

Thu 12 Jun, 03:30 PM

Ipswich will wait until Leicester have appointed a new manager before launching another bid to prise Gareth McAuley away from the Foxes. The Foxes are currently conducting interviews to find a successor to Ian Holloway, who left the club last month following relegation to League One. Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric hopes to make an appointment at the weekend.

Ipswich tried to sign McAuley in January but had two bids for the Northern Ireland international rejected.

Town boss Jim Magilton told the Evening Star: "We wanted to get the job done quickly but Leicester have lost their manager and are taking stock, which you can understand.

"It is still early days but we will continue to monitor the situation and see what develops from there.

"It is an ongoing situation. As I said at the end of the season, I am not going to strive too far away from targets that we have pinned down and Gareth is someone that I feel can do a good job for us."
