La Liga - Perez: Real can afford spree

Eurosport - Fri, 12 Jun 09:54:00 2009

The purchase of Kaka and massive bid for Cristiano Ronaldo will not lead to Real Madrid being burdened by a huge amount of debt, new president Florentino Perez has said.

Real were given permission to negotiate with Ronaldo after Manchester United accepted a world record bid of £80 million for the Portugal winger on Thursday.

Three days earlier, Brazil playmaker Kaka joined the Spanish giants from AC Milan for a fee reported to be around £56m.

"On the contrary, we think can improve our accounts by aiming for three goals," construction magnate Perez told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about the debt issue.

"Increasing ticket sales, increasing bank loans and increasing the club's economic value".

He added that Real generated enough revenue to cover these massive transfer market investments, with more expected to come, without him having to use his own funds.

"(The money) is exclusively the club's, not mine," said Perez, who twice broke the transfer record in taking 'Galacticos' Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham to the Bernabeu in his previous stint as president from 2000-06.

"Real Madrid takes about 400 million (euros) a year, the fruit of three sources of income - a third from ticket sales, a third from television rights and a third from merchandising."

  1. if ronaldo gonna get over £500.000 a week and maybe more for the next 6 yrs so what's other players gonna think about it while they only get £80.000 and few £100.000 a week?
will be big problem inside the club for sure cos ronaldo alone cant win matches.
i'm sick of all this and i just wanna know if all that money coming from the bank and loan or his pocket money?
does he really need all that money?

  4. PinkMama, Ruud was bought for about 15mill, not 30 or 40 which at the time was a bargain, they are also looking into selling him due to his age and the fact he has spent almost an entire season injured, plus with the possible arrivals of other strikers, he will be surplus to requirements and paying 100k a week in wages to a player which isnt needed is stupid.

  7. melhutton obviously playing too much "Fantasy Football". How do come to £25Mill for Ronaldo when Joeleon Lescott is going to Man City for £18mill, do the maths. Ronaldo
is worth more than the £7 Mill difference you price him at. I did not like what he stood for at Man U but he is priced for his youth i.e. he has at least another 10 years top fligt left in him. Has not peaked yet, scores as many goals as an out and out striker, and can conjure something out of nothing in a game. He is also benchmarked against his peers on an international level if others go at £40-60 Mil £80 mil for his past performance and future potential whilst an outrageoues figure in the world of everyday people - fans in particular - it is the level for players at his level voted 'World Footballer of the Year'. I say that as a Man U fan who believes his
genaral attitude is and will continue to be disgraceful.

  9. christopher, you seem to have a corrupted memory. Try to reformat your brain. The Galacticos won la Liga few times and the CL. What are you talking about?

  10. I like what you said Christopher (ash tray on a motorbike). I definately think that the Galacticos look good as a team on paper. What they are not focusing on is team chemistry, which is something that is built on with years of paying and training together. What is also important is that they do not have too many bulls in the same penn. We all know what happens when that haoppens. How much did they buy Ruud for? Was it about £30 or 40 million? Now they want to sell him (it seems) for about 6% of that (£2million) to Spurs. Debt or no debt - this does not sound good for Real.

  11. I read Mihir's Bose blog about this on the BBC. Real are not a PLC like united and like Barca are owned by the fans. They habe more money coming in than united and are not in debt. Mihir Bose said what Perez just said. The generate 400million (euros) and upwards each year so is more than enough to buy "galaticos". But i do think that £80 million is excessive for Ronaldo who is probably not much worth than £25 million. They will take a huge hit when Ronaldo moves on. They will probably sell him for £20 million

  12. The previous Galactico coup didn't yield any resounding success, I doubt it very much if this one will be different. As useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

  13. I'll doubt i'll belive that if you win nothing for two years and I belive you sold all your propery assets 6 years ago the last time you pissed 200million up the wall.
