Aberdeen have confirmed Mark McGhee has been appointed as manager with Scott Leitch, his assistant at Motherwell, his number two.
The pair replace Jimmy Calderwood, Jimmy Nicholl and Sandy Clark, who left Pittodrie last month.
McGhee was part of the Dons side which won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983 with a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in Gothenburg.
Dons director of football Willie Miller told the club's official website: "The board was unanimous in the choice of Mark for our new manager. As everyone knows, these situations can be extremely delicate and you have to allow for all eventualities.
"That said, we're delighted Mark and Scott have agreed to join us and with the return of European football next month, these are exciting times here at Pittodrie.
"Mark is well known to most Aberdeen supporters and of course, having been here as a player, he also knows what the club means to them and he's itching to get started."

good luck to the aberdeen fans having to listen to mcghee going on about wanting the celticjob for the next 2 seasons then jumping ship as soon as he can
I believe that the Dons now have a manager that could take them near the heights they reached in the 80's. Celtic and Rangers are going backwards and other teams are improving. Now that McGhee is in the post get rid of that other waste of space that is costing the Dons money (Miller) and give the funds to the manager to get some decent players. Good luck to the new boss.
Looks like Willie got his man..But at what cost to buying in some descent players...If they can afford to pay Motherwell compensation for McGEE....They must have some cash to splash out on a few new players....Since the last lot have all walked out for free. Not sure if Mcgee is the right choice....Should have given Gordon Strachan a run for there money....No Compansation involved with an unemployed...Ex Celtic manager....Mallytait oot in Sakhalin (DQ)
point 1, what @#$% you come out with, he will do fine job at Pittodrie.
good to see that the aberdeen fans know where they belong.lol. fingers crossed for 3.don't put your money on it.
haha! now we hav no excuse for not doing well. we will come third!!!!
That's a good deal for Aberdeen i think. McGhee is an experienced manger in the SPL so I think he will fit in well and have Aberdeen challenging for 3 spot. It's a shame the SPL is a 2 horse race.
YYAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Great appointment...good times ahead. Roll on the rangers game...when did they last win at Aberdeen?? Ha ha.
STAND FREE!!
I hope he does well and gets some financial backing too - doubt it thou with 'moneys too tight to mention' in charge!
billy you are a total waste of a comment go back to your own scummy pages and take your english flag with you
