Serie A - Liverpool 'bid for Lavezzi'

Eurosport - Fri, 12 Jun 23:40:00 2009

Ezequiel Lavezzi's agent insists Serie A club Napoli have received an offer from Liverpool for the Argentina striker.

FOOTBALL LAVEZZI NAPOLI - 0

Napoli general director Pierpaolo Marino said on Thursday his club had not received any bids for Lavezzi while Reds boss Rafael Benitez has also denied any interest in the South American star.

However, Lavezzi's agent Alejandro Mazzoni said: "Pierpaolo Marino continues to lie. I reiterate that a FIFA agent presented Napoli with an offer from Liverpool for Lavezzi."

He added: "This was a formal procedure as the player cannot be contacted directly (by the interested club) because he is under contract with Napoli."

Lavezzi has been linked with a move away from Napoli this month following a dispute with his club over a contract extension.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Naples-based outfit in the summer of 2007, scored seven league goals this season.

Lavezzi is under contract with Napoli until June 2012.

  7. It easyer to stop a really good player when is teams not that good round him but if hes got players like Gerrard,Torres, and co making runs u cant double him up then cos the others will score there for he probably will score more as well at a bigger club

  9. End of the day we lost league by 4 points and we will have same players and man u have lost there top scorer and best player by far even tho i hate to say it. These not going to be anyone out there to replace him its like us losing Gerrard. 80 million well 30m tevez who they already had 50m left and i bet he dont get all that money so is it that good a deal.

  11. although ive never heard of this player, i dont like the fact he is getting written off because he only scored 7 goals last season, when we got kuyt he was a 30 goal a season player, and torres top tally was 14, its all about where they get played and the supply,

  12. This lad looks promising. Hes at a good age, sign for 5 years and we will get the best of him. don't think we have the funds for villa simply as, forget it. The manager would have spoke to javier about him, which is good enough for me. We need to start facing reality, we will not be able to compete with utd in the spending this season, but Rafa has some more tricks up his sleeve wait and see.

  13. Rafa knows what he is doing, some of you clowns who support other teams go to your own forums. when your teams have won as many tropheys as liverpool have! then and only then can you comand the bragging rites that all true LFC supporters have.

  14. steinbachmartin - peter crouch? are you serious? he was a good servant to the club and a great guy off the field, but we need someone who can play on the wing, behind torres or as a striking option.

  16. anyone who has watched him play (and i don't mean just a youtube video or some other kind of vid) will know that he is good enough for any top premiership side. he hasn't scored that many but he creates goals for others and is an absolute handful for defenders on occasions. at times he has to be physically held down by defenders. i hope we get him.

    From the_smiths_rule, on Fri 12 Jun 1:40PM
  17. i can see where is rafa coming from: 7 goals, one each at anfield against likes of man city, fulham, hull, stoke, west ham, arsenal and everton lets say - that is extra 14 points for mighty reds! i still think peter crouch would do, but doesnt really fit rafa's way of playing (nor does babel & dossena, kuyt is getting used to it). we need proper striker - david villa or goran pandev or even ruud van niestelroy - bang - back of the net! However watch out next season - Liverpool FC - Kings of Football! YNWA

    From stein23, on Fri 12 Jun 1:37PM
  18. I've heard so many good things about this guy. But 7 goals a season striker esp in an inferior league does not say good about him. Afterall kuyt is a 15 goal a season winger/ RB (whatever)

    From lincolnburrows90, on Fri 12 Jun 1:23PM
  19. He might have only scored 7 goals but it was in italy where teams are ultra-defensive. just check him out on youtube, he looks real quality, every bit as good at running with the ball as ronaldo and messi, he's lightning fast and he'd do a great job in the prem. Wish leeds could afford him. :D

    From marcharrison1979, on Fri 12 Jun 1:08PM
  20. Would be concerned that not a proven premiership performer which seems to be the downfall of 50% of foreign signings, but trust rafa nows what hes doing.

One things for sure - ManU wont be able to replace Ronaldo because to buy quality in the current inflated market would require the Glazers to cough up more that they will be prepared too. On that basis its Liverpools title to lose this year... Lavezzi or no Lavezzi.

Lets face it he couldn't be any worse in the premiership then Diego Forlan...
