Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is understood to be one of the players Tottenham are looking at ahead of the new Barclays Premier League season.
Huntelaar, the Holland international, scored eight goals in 20 appearances after arriving at the Bernabeu from Ajax but was also left out of their Champions League squad in favour of Lassana Diarra.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who is also believed to be monitoring Ruud van Nistelrooy at Real, has been tipped to revamp his squad after taking them from bottom to eighth in the table in their last campaign.
Sulley Muntari's agent has claimed Spurs had an offer turned down for the Inter Milan midfielder, who worked with Redknapp at Portsmouth.
"It is true Tottenham made an offer, but Sulley remains at Inter as they declined it," said Fabien Piveteau on setanta.com.
"He is very happy to play and win for Inter, and wants to continue to do so. He only came to Inter last year on a four-year contract."
Redknapp, meanwhile, believes Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley will provide tough challenges next season after promotion.
"They are all big clubs with great traditions and they will all be determined to stay up," said Redknapp.
"I would never write them off. I remember coming up with Portsmouth and everyone thought we would go straight back down but Pompey are now established in the Premier League.
"They've all got clever managers who know what they are doing and Birmingham are clearly going to have a go - they've just paid a lot of money for Christian Benitez from Ecuador, who is a good player."

If this guy really is available we need to snap him up b4 Chelski or Man @#$% throw him £1mill a week to play for them :P
i think spurs have got a pretty good chance this year but we need to replace king i no his done us proud but the guy cant play more than 2 games in a row if what fans and the club are talking about top 4 or 5 then we need 2 good defenders 1 or 2 good midfielders get another good keeper to put pressure on gomez i think then we have a good chance but will harry see our comments i think not? levy will be under pressure to deliver the goods because harry wont mess around.Every year were promised top players then we go for the cheaper option we need a multibillionaire from abu-dhabi then we can get players who we have been linked to in the past need a reminder[ eto'o/casilas/villa/. and now huntelaar we will see but i dont think any good players we try will go to spurs unless we reach c/league/ from no1 fan deanio.
aged van vist. no thanks. lets have some young talent. if your listening lets see jermain beckford from leeds. robbie can show him the way.
You all seem to have forgotten bent was our top scorer, how quickly people forget.
Crouch in and Bent the other way! I heard talks have already started.
"as he comes unstuck when he's pitted against a pacy or tricky winger" refering to Corluka, what about when he came on for Zokora when he was being raped by ash young, and ended up making him look like a poor mans Bentley?
not_blonde_really: Hutton has been at fault on a number of occasions when he has played this season, and both he and Chimbonda are attacking full backs rather than being an asset to the defence. Corluka is a decent player, although he seems more suited to covering at centre half rather than full back, as he comes unstuck when he's pitted against a pacy or tricky winger. Bale isn't a full back either, and Assou Ekotto seems to always want to head back to France.
I realistically don't think we are in contention for Glen Johnson anyway, but again, he's not particularly defensive, and would probably get shown up playing against someone really decent.
amidgley66, we have three pretty accomplished right backs (Corluka, Hutton and Chimbonda), why on earth would we need another?!
For once id like to see players stay at the lane, lets keep our players and buy a couple of players to sure things up a little make the players play for their positions and push for a top 5 finish maybe then we can get strong quality signings...getting rid of half the team aint gonna solve anything and any good signing we get now will leave to a better club in a year or two lets build for the future on what we have now, we have fantastic players in the likes of Palacios,Lennon,Moderic,Pav,Keane,Defoe and even Gomez they are starting to click given time and with a little more belief Jenas,Bentley,Huddlestone and the like will start to pick up the pace and fight for their positions something Spurs have lacked since Jol left, he was on the right track but once again as soon as a player or manager has a little blip its get rid and try something new??...when will it stop?.. lets carry on one more season with a couple of new signings, and if we have to sell...well Bale and Bent can be sacrficed..."for the greater good" that is.....
totty dreamers, huntelaar wont go to the lane. he has too much talent and wiil wait for a big club to come in for him. why would he want mid table and a crack at the league cup
come on harry sign this guy, along with Van Nistelrooy and Marcus Berg
Spurs should go for Glen Johnson to shore up the defence.
klinsmann!!
will we also be linked with messi, eto and kaka, every season we are linked with big signings, we then rush to lastminute, @#$%, signings, com, oh and dont forget, modric will be watched by man u and we'll sell him on 31 august, hope i'm wrong but i dont think so
For F**k sake, give us hope
we get promised good players but we never due only real decent player we haved is modric and gomes looking like hes gonna be good value but all weve had.
vaan huntelaar, robben and sneijder please harry and you can sell jenas, bent, and zokora. may not happen but we have tp upgrade not buy players who are no better than we already have.
hope either Huntelaar or van Nistelrooy comes...get rid of bent for a couple of quid, he is rubbish
Won't happen but yes please!
