World number three Phil Mickelson has declared himself fit for next week's British Open insisting his recent struggles with a wrist injury will not affect his chances of winning.

The 37-year-old, who sustained the injury while practising for the US Open, has missed the cut in his last two events but believes the wrist has finally healed enough for him to find a return to form.

"It's OK, not 100 percent but I don't think it will affect my shots," he said.

Mickelson will compete in the Scottish Open this week in Loch Lomond in preparation for the Open at Carnoustie which begins on July 19th.

"This works out perfectly. With Carnoustie being so close I was able to come to town, play some practice rounds at there and still get here and be ready for this event," Mickelson continued.

"The courses certainly look different but the shots required are similar. It is windy here and you need to keep the ball below the tree line and out of the wind, much like Carnoustie.

"Carnoustie is hard and really challenging but there are also a lot of opportunities for the players to separate themselves with good play. I've not played in the Open as well as I would have liked. I've still to perfect some of the shot-making."
