Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is confident he can begin the season with a stronger team than finished last term, despite a number of departures.McLeish has brought in Lee Carsley and Kevin Philips on free transfers, but he has lost nine players including Mikael Forssell and Fabrice Muamba.
There is also speculation linking Sebastian Larsson and James McFadden with moves away from St Andrews.
But McLeish told the Birmingham Mail: "I would say to our supporters that whoever we have lost, we have tried to replace with quality.
"I would also tell them that if anyone else goes, again it would be our intention to replace with quality.
"I am not saying people are going to go. What I am saying is that we want to start the new season with a better team than finished the last season, that last game against Blackburn Rovers. It's my job as manager to do that, with the help of the board."

as a massive blues fan, i have found the summer transfers an utter shock!! every single fan out there knows we need to strengthen our back four!! thats the reason we went down last season, enough of signing the OAP rejects from other clubs and lets get some young eager and excitable players in the squad so we have a fighting chance of getting back into the premiership next season, otherwise we will just linger in the championship!!
come on board sort it out!!
AM A SLIGHTLY WORRIED BLUE NOSE , AS WE SEEM TO BE LOSING ALL OUR PLAYERS AND SIGNING THE OVER 35'S , AND THIS NOW IS A CONCERN FOR THE BLUENOSE'S, WE DESERVE BETTER FROM OUR BOARD AS WE ARE SHOWING NO URGENCY TO RETURN TO THE TOP FLIGHT , LEAKY DEFENCE , AND A WEAK FRONT LINE , ALL THE ATRIBUTES FOR MID TABLE FINISH ,WE SELL LARRSON AND McFADDEN , AND WE ARE JUST NOT GONNA DO JACK THIS SEASON ,
