Scott upbeat despite friendly defeat

Sat 12 Jul, 11:15 AM

Brentford boss Andy Scott felt his side got a worthwhile run-out after their first pre-season friendly ended in a 2-0 defeat to Ipswich. The Bees held their own in the first half, with new signing Marvin Williams particularly impressive, and only when Scott made six changes after the break did the visitors' class begin to show.

Town went ahead when Pim Balkestein headed home on the hour, and they doubled their lead when on-trial centre-half Brett Johnson brought down Danny Haynes, who headed home the rebound after Simon Brown had saved his penalty.

"I was very pleased with the first half," said Scott.

"Obviously the second half, when we made a few more changes after the hour, got a little bit scrappy as the lads got tired.

"We also had some young boys on the pitch but overall I was pleased."
