Rangers manager Walter Smith has confirmed his interest in signing Watford defender Danny Shittu.
The Nigeria international has been linked with a move to Ibrox, as well as Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Sunderland have also been linked with Shittu, who joined Watford two years ago from QPR.
The Hornets outlined their intention to keep the centre-half earlier this week, but are having their resolve tested by Rangers.
Smith has confirmed talks have taken place with the Championship club and is now waiting to see if Gers can agree a fee.
He told the club's official website: "We have been speaking to Watford for a couple of days, so whether we get any closer to that remains to be seen."
