Premier League - Sunderland snap up Campbell

Eurosport - Sun, 12 Jul 09:12:00 2009

Fraizer Campbell has chosen Sunderland over Hull City after signing from Manchester United for what could rise to £6 million.

FOOTBALL Fraizer Campbell, seen here on loan at Tottenham, who has joined Sunderland from Manchester United for an initial fee of £3.5 million that could rise to £6m - 0

The 21-year-old agreed a four-year deal after he passed a medical at the Stadium of Light.

The initial fee will be £3.5m but add-ons could see United earn almost double that for their academy product.

He spent the 2007-08 season on loan at Hull, helping them win promotion to the Premier League, and was widely expected to rejoin them permanently before new Black Cats boss Steve Bruce made his move.

Campbell, an England U21 international who missed the European Championships final after being sent off in the semi, spent most of last season on loan at Tottenham where he helped the team reach the Carling Cup final.

The terms of his loan ruled him ineligible to face the Red Devils, who won on penalties.

  1. Whatever Tony K, its more than you will be feeding on! Will you be able to field a side come the start of the season?

  2. Come off it.....are you honestly suggesting this is a "real" man utd player? I dont think you are that daft. No one in football can seriously question Fergies judgement and he's had a look and decided to get rid...nuff said...you lot are feeding on scraps as usual.
    Harrods indeed..........

  9. Good luck to Campbell but I think he is making a mistake thinking going to Sunderland thinking they will make him a better player. He came to Hull City when we were in the championship and we improved him as a player by giving him a run in the team, even though sometimes he deserved to be dropped. He won't get that type of nursemaiding at Sunderland because the established stars will play up. How many players go to Sunderland and get sold on for more? not many. Sunderland spent about 80 million with Roy Keane and only just managed to stay up. I think he is kidding himself if he thinks Sunderland are a more stable club than Hull City. The bookies got it wrong last season about Hull City and they will get it wrong again for next season.

  10. As a neutral, I do think that Berbatov has not worked for Man. U. (Alright ... UNDERSTATEMENT!). On limited displays, young Frazier Campbell, with the 'starts', and the quality around him, could have been a 'Through The Ranks' find for Sir Alex, and I wish him well at Sunderland, although with respect to The Black Cats, this is a retrograde step for the young man. Then there is the Michael Owen deal. Maybe the time is approaching when The Great Man should think about following the tennis circuit at his leisure, accept a peerage, and make way for 'The Special One' at OT.?

  17. In all honesty I don't think buying Berbaslob for cash with Fraser-Campbell on loan to Spurs was good business at all. I think there would've been a similar result from Campbell goals wise, but work ethic/rate would've been better than Berbaslob's... What's more United coffers would still be £30 odd million up.
