Franco in Hammers claim

Guillermo Franco claims he has signed a one-year contract with West Ham.

The Mexico striker was released by Villarreal in the summer after an injury-plagued three seasons with the Spanish club.

"The contract is until June even though in principle West Ham wanted it to be a two-year contract," the 32-year-old told reporters before flying to England with Tottenham and Mexico winger Giovani dos Santos.

"We wanted it only to be a year. Then we will see, above all because the World Cup is coming up and we hope to qualify.

"After the World Cup we will see what will happen.

"I also decided that it would only be one year because as a family we will see if we adapt, if we like it and if it turns out as we are thinking or not.

"So the most logical option was to sign until June and that's what we've sorted out with West Ham.

"I'm happy because I'm going to an English team and I believe that is a good opportunity for me."
