Barguil wins stage as Chaves claims l'Avenir title
Frenchman Warren Barguil won the seventh and final stage while Johan Esteban Chaves took overall victory in the Tour de l'Avenir.
Colombian Chaves (pictured) was seven seconds behind Canada's David Boily at the start of the 138.5km stage and triumphed after finishing second of the three riders who crossed the line two seconds behind Barguil.
Boily was towards the back of the third group of 18 riders who came in 26 seconds off the pace.
Italian Mattia Cattaneo was second on the stage, with Michael Rodriguez fourth behind compatriot Chaves.
Briton Mark Christian was fifth.
Most of the seven-stage race took place in France’s Alpine region, with forays into Switzerland as well as Italy.
The Tour de l'Avenir is an eight-day race for national teams dubbed the 'Tour of the Future' for U23 Tour de France prospects.
Felice Gimondi, Joop Zoetemelk, Greg Lemond, Miguel Indurain and Laurent Fignonall are all previous winners of the Tour de l'Avenir in the past who went on to win 12 Tour de France titles between them.
