Tevez joined City to continue winning streak

Mon, 12 Oct 09:28:47 2009

Argentina striker Carlos Tevez took a risk in signing for Manchester City after he was convinced by manager Mark Hughes' ambitions for the club, according to the player's agent Kia Joorabchian.

The 25-year-old chose to move to Eastlands from Manchester United in the summer with a number of Europe's top sides also interested in him. Despite accusations he was just cashing in on City's new-found wealth under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Joorabchian insists Tevez felt a greater purpose.

"Most importantly, in his discussions with Mark, he asked 'Are you really going to build a great team to achieve something?'," said Joorabchian, who previously held the economic rights to Tevez before his £25.5million City transfer. "He took that risk because he believed in what Mark Hughes had told him, and that was the main deciding factor for him."

Joorabchian added on talkSPORT: "The decision that Carlos made was very well thought out.

"His thought processes were very long. On a football scale, Carlos first and foremost always thinks about his career and what he wants.

"Carlos has won every single major trophy that he has ever competed in, except for the World Cup.

"In South America he's won the Argentinian championship; he's won best player in Argentina three times in a row - something which neither Pele nor Maradona did.

"He's won the Brazilian championship; he won the Champions League; he's won the Premier League; he won the Copa Libertadores.

"When he was making his decision he wanted a club that had a lot of ambition where he could actually achieve some great things, [a club] that had not actually achieved that greatness."

  1. Tevez was out of contract, he did not leave Utd. He was sold by his owners, so I doubt he had much say. Money was the only reason, he is a commodity. 48 million was a bit much for a good but not brilliant player. City thought he was worth it and then used him to try and insult United. He is really only a pawn and undoubtly only says what Thaksin's friend Mr Cook allows him to say. End of story.

  2. He works hard...but he is a bit overrated. He went to a team where he could get first team action...and I'm sure the money helped a lot.

  3. Surely the only reason Tevez joined City was because neither United, Liverpool or Chelsea wanted to pay that much for him.

  4. Before playing for manchester united, TEVEZ played for Corinthians and west ham... for ARGENTINA, he rides the bench behind MESSI and KUN AGUERO... 4 years ago his signature was worth dirt... HOW IS HE WORTH 25.5 MILLION?? THE GUY HAS NO CREDIBLE TRACK RECORD... so he can run alot, but he isn't the prolific goalscorer that should be paid 25.5 million. THE INFLATED PRICES FOR PLAYERS IS RIDICULOUS and TEVEZ is the poster boy for what is presently corrupting this sport.

  9. Why do people keep whinging on about the number of United fans who don't live in Manchester. So what? It just shows that they are the biggest supported club in the country and the world. let me ask you something. How many ofr the Beatles millions of fans came from Liverpool? Same situation with United.

  10. Tevez was a great loss to ManU. Let's be honest. He could have been of tremendous impact this season.. Good luck to him anyway..

  11. Rock and Roll Machine: don't make claims about Manchester United supporters without quoting facts. 62% of our sesason ticket holders live in the Greater Manchester area. 40% in the City of Manchester. In the same report city had 59% of its seasopn ticket holders living in Greater Manchester most of whom live in Stockport,Whitefield (Bury) and othjer satellite towns like Oldham and Ashton Under Lyne.Deal in relity not myths. Like 41 years since city last won the top trophy in English football and 34 since they won any major trophy. Tevez is the third whingeing Argie to leave United in less than freindly circumstances the others were Veron and Heinze. He showed disloyalty whilst he was still playing for us, to the club and the manager. He can't expect a good reception from United fans, loyalty is all! Wait til Bellamy gets the bench treatment, he'll make Tevez look like a little Argie angel.

  12. OK Jumaford, I can spot another tenacious bugger too! I do agree with a great deal of what you say. Believe it or not, when City were taken over and the new owners were on about buying the likes of Kaka and Ronaldhino.....blah blah.....I was deeply unhappy and felt like my club was slipping away. Thank God we didn't get them...not that they wanted to anyway of course and I don't blame them. I don't want to buy any trophies and I still want too see the academy boys coming through, but I have to concede that it's a different game now.....a trend started by Chelsea in the UK I guess. All the big boys spend big money. You guys still have the most expensive centre-half in the world, don't you? What was Ferdinand, 29 million? We have spent big and spent it quickly. Other than that, there's not a massive difference in our modus operandi to the other big clubs. As for Tevez, I just think that people have been too quick to judge him. I think a great deal has gone on and we probably don't know the whole story. Of course part of it is money. Have you ever moved jobs for more money? I have, but I also moved for other reasons, such as progressing my career or having more responsibility or more social time. I'm also wary of quotes attributed to people in the press as I know how how things can be misquoted, taken out of context or just lied about. Owen seems to be suffering with that at the moment because of his "big club" comments. And he's right, someone will trawl through every interview he's had to find something that contradicts it, just to make a story.

  13. Hey Mr. Rock and Roll Machine. I'm glad that you never give up, so don't assume ManU fans also never give up, you don't know all of them either, and my point about Tevez is what I said was true so all you can go by is his statements. I'm happy he moved on, he did his job at ManU and no one wants a player that doesn't want to give it 100% no matter where they are on the pecking order, look at lescott and Ade. But doen't expect ManU fans to say anything nice about him no matter what he did, cause he didn't win those championships all by himself and if any one of your players left for your biggest rivals, no matter what they did for your team before I doubt you'd have anything good to say about them. Either Tevez doesn't really know why he left, left because he's got a money hungry manager (use to), or one of any of the reasons he keeps giving orr he's just not good when it comes to public speaking. Wish him all the luck. What's funny to me is that for all the money you guys spent buying a new team, it's one of the few players that didn't jump on the new ship that keeps saving you guys from sinking, so if you want to know what it feels like to send your best players to your rivals send Bellamy and Ireland over to ManU. And before you say it, ManU fans will complain about Ronaldo as well but at least we know exactly why he left, no flip floping on his part. And ya for ManC buying great players, I have no problem with that, it's a team like Real I have a problem with. They weren't winning so they went out and bought all the best players from the teams that were beating them, trust me you guys start doing great things and maybe even beat them in a champions league game and they'll come knocking on your door to try and buy whoever scored on them, I wouldn't be surprised if some one from sevillia ends up on their team in January.

  15. No jumaford, I never give up. Us City fans are a tenacious breed, turning up for the matches every week, even though there's bugger-all trophy-wise to hope for. How do you know Tevez is lying by the way? Are you his close friend and confidante?

From Rock and Roll Machine, on Fri 9 Oct 5:24PM
  16. Yes, all these Man City fans yelling lets move on, that's funny, how long did it take you guys to move on from complaining about your loss to Manchester U? Have you moved on yet or do you need a few more minutes to wallow in your sadness? Tevez is a good player, success is never a sure thing, even at the Mighty Manchester United where the odds are in your favor, so everyone moves for money. The problem with Tevez is he keeps lying about his reasons, it seems, the more he looses the love he had at United. First it's complainng about being on the bench and not loved, guess he needed more hugs from Fergie, he said he wanted to stay but no contract and he loves the fans but not the management, sorry but you don't say that about management at any job unless you were already planning on quiting, and now that he turned down what he was saying he wanted to keep him at ManU, all of a sudden he left because he thinks Man City is going places, no wait, now he left cause all along he's won everything but been on a @#$% team and taken them to the top. Basically stating that ManCity were @#$% and he's going to turn them around. See you in two to three minutes to see what you guys think. Unless of course you give up before then.

IF YOU THINK BACK TO WHEN UNITED WERE LAST RELEGATED,WE STILL HAD THE HIGHEST GATES IN ALL THE DIVISIONS !
AS FOR "THE PRAWN SANDWICH BRIGADE" I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT ALL THE TOP WORLD CLASS CLUB HAVE IMPROVED STANDARDS,AND ENCOURAGED FANS FROM ALL DIFFERENT LEVELS !
GORTON FC AREN'T THERE YET!IT WASN'T LONG AGO AT MAINE ROAD THAT YOU HAD TO GO OUTSIDE FOR A PPISS,REAL CLASS !
ON ONE HAND YOU TALK LIKE YOU ARE REAL MADRID AND THEN YOU SLIP BACK TO BEING JUST GORTON FC !
AS I'VE SAID BEFORE UNITED DO HAVE MASSIVE SUPPORT OUTSIDE MANCHESTER AS WELL AS MASSIVE SUPPORT IN MANCHESTER,BUT SO DO ARSENAL ,CHELSEA AND LIVEINTHEPAST FC HAVE BIG SUPPORT OUTSIDE OF THEIR OWN AREAS..........AND THE REASON ?...........SUCCESS!
SO IF YOU START WINNIG THINGS LIKE YOU SAY YOU WILL YOU WILL PROBABLY GAIN SUPPORTERS FROM AREAS OTHER THAN WHERE THEY COME FROM NOW LIKE STOCKPORT,CHEADLE,HEALD GREEN ETC!
