Zenden confident over Black Cats deal

Mon, 12 Oct 09:56:37 2009

Boudewijn Zenden is confident he can prove his fitness and sign for Sunderland at the end of next week.

The 33-year-old, who lists Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Liverpool among his former clubs, is a free agent after his contract expired at Marseille and has been training with Sunderland for the past week.

"It's now a week that I've been training with Sunderland," the former Holland winger told France Football. "And I will continue another week with this team. I will know if I will sign a contract only towards the end of next week."

He added: "At the moment, the thing is, that there isn't many people because of the international break.

"But that doesn't prevent me from working hard. Moreover, there are still great names here like (Steed) Malbranque, (Darren) Bent and (Kieran) Richardson too."

Zenden added: "What is certain is that the bosses are interested in me. They only want to see if I am physically fit or not.

"I have not stopped since leaving Marseille. I have worked six times a week since this summer.

"It's a very nice club, well organised, with superb facilities."

  2. MALCOLM D, you could have a point there, why go for a player that the top four are not interested in?
Well what about Ribery instead then. He's a lot younger than Beckham but you will have to move fast because Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City and I believe Real Madrid are also in the hunt.
With your current form he may struggle to break into your first team but I'm sure he would be flattered by your interest and may prefer to join you when he sees your potential.
    Either that or Zenden.

Firstly you ignoramus, WHY ARE YOU STILL TALKING ABOUT BECKHAM ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Secondly, I absolutely promise I can get you to bite again

  4. malcy boy..as the vast majority of fans are not on 3 year deals(which if you paid on a direct debit, you could cancel but you would be charged the money you saved for every home game attended)and thousands actually renewed their seson tickets, so that knocks holes in your feeble excuse for our huge crowds. ps you will probably get 40k plus against the bindippers(mind you we will probably get that in our next game against doncaster!)and then back to your 10k empty seats.ps jt...ooh how dare dare dare me!!

Beckham wouldnt be our best asset at all on the pitch, he is past his best and thats why none of the top four are clammering for his services. As i said we dont want to be carrying passengers like we did previously.
I agree the marketing side would probably take off because the women would go spare for a shirt of his. Seats and filled and stadiums figures that you're on about, in your place are manipulated as we all know your fans wre conned into buying their seson tickets and tied into 3yr deals. our figure will only continue to climb. if your club dont get things right this year well we'll see what happens to your crowd figures and they wont be as good as you hope for

  6. MALCOLM D, if Beckham was to sign for you (which he is not) he would be your best player by a mile and I'm sure all of you would be over the moon. Your home attendance would increase by 5/6 thousand (still leaving 5/6 thousand empty seats) and all the kids would be buying shirts with his name on the back along with other merchandise.
According to media reports it looks like he will be going back to AC Milan and if not Chelsea (no mention whatsoever anywhere of Sunderland) and it also looks odds on that he will be going to South Africa next year. If he's good enough for that, he's certainly good enough for Sunderland.
Stop talking b oll ox man and give your head a shake. Yes you have a new manager and regime and you've signed some decent players but that makes you better than you were last season, it doesn't make you Barcelona.

Total and utter nonsense from the doughnut as usual. How the hell did Beckham get a mention? Last i heard he was off to AC Milan again, I seriously think he'd retire before signing for the mackems

  11. Both Beckham and Zenden are approaching the ages where they are not going to be able to run around for 90 mins, however, they could do 45 mins.
Either way , I am not convinced that Beckham would be any use to the club as he is one of those players who thinks he is bigger and better than the team and the club. If he comes, and I doubt he will, he will not be of much use to us and we dont want to be carrying passengers like we did with Roy Keane.
