Association hails FIA agreement

The Formula One Teams' Association has said the agreement fostered with the FIA over cost cuts was "beyond all expectations".

FORMULA 1 - Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari president and chairman of the Formula One Teams' Association - 0

FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo (pictured), the president of Ferrari, said the meeting between FIA president Max Mosley and the principals of each F1 team in Monte Carlo was positive.

"I am very glad about the climate of enormous collaboration at the meeting," he stated. "There is a common sense of the difficult moment of our sport. (In the meeting) we could see the great responsibility of all the participants.

"The worldwide economic crisis and the enormous increase of costs in Formula One over the last years have led the FIA and its president to give a strong and correct impulse to cut costs as of 2010 to get our sport back into acceptable economical dimensions, so all teams will be able to participate.

"The answer we found was beyond all our expectations. The participants' passion for this sport brought the FOTA members to go beyond the requests made by president Mosley ... voting unanimously for a substantial reduction of costs from 2009.

"Mosley appreciated our proposals, which will be examined tomorrow by the FIA World Motor Sport Council."

Di Montezemolo was at the heart of the foundation of the FOTA in the summer, which gives the teams a common voice in their dealings with the bodies that run F1.

"I am extremely proud of the work FOTA has done so far," he continued. "(It is) an association which did not exist until last September and which united the teams beyond their rivalry ... which could have been an obstacle on the way to redesigning the future of Formula One."

  7. The teams not acting as one COULD have been an obstacle for the future according to Montezemelo. I say that the teams being selfish up until now is a component of the state F1 now finds itself in, and while the FIA and Max are willing to accept some responsibility, the teams need to stand up and say that they are also responsible for the state of F1, that their self-serving attitude and constant bickering and complaining about one another the second one team grabbed an advantage over the rest (i.e. Renault and their Mass Damper) has done as much damage as anything else. They have been happy to complain about any innovation they didn't think of first or that they couldn't make work for their car and assisted in the stifling of the sport we now see crumbling before us.
