Champions League - UEFA to study Rooney stamp

Eurosport - Fri, 12 Dec 08:58:00 2008

UEFA have revealed they will study video evidence before deciding whether to take action against Wayne Rooney for an incident involving Aalborg's Kasper Risgard.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Manchester United - Rooney - 0

The Manchester United forward was accused of stamping on the Danish midfielder's chest after the 2-2 draw in the Champions League Group E match at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

A UEFA spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident and the disciplinary panel will study the footage and newspaper reports before deciding whether to take action."

French referee Laurent Duhamel allowed the incident to go unpunished, but Risgard revealed Rooney apologised after the game.

He said: "I do not know what happened and why it happened, he (Rooney) was jumping at my chest.

"Maybe he was a little bit frustrated but Manchester United were playing some good football. It was still 1-1.

"I do not think the referee saw it. Anywhere else but this place it would have been a red card.

"These challenges happen in football - I have some big marks - but I do think it looks good on television. He did come and apologise to me after the game."

Any retrospective punishment could result in Rooney missing part of the knock-out stages of the competition.

  5. well I must say as a fotball surporter and player back in the 70's when you had the c**p kicked out of you, some of the comments above which I read and thought of the thugs who wrote some stupid stuff should learn to love the game and not hate the people who don't play for their team.
I must agree with a few comments made however Rooney does get hot tempered , but that is because he is so passionate about the game, the incident in the euro game was not deliberate the man made a challenge for the ball and lost his balance not just one leg but both. Please people watch your game of football as a neutral even though you love your team.

  6. Anyone who thinks that the stamp wasn't deliberate, has clearly never kicked a ball in their life. Rooney's a great player with a lot of intensity, but that can be a double edged sword if the player mis-directs his aggression. Sadly,in Rooneys case it seems; you can take the boy out of the council estate, but you can't take the council estate out of the boy.

  10. Munes are so two faced, imagine Rooney and Ronaldo playing against each other and Rooney tackeling Ronaldo in the penalty area. Prettyboy would make a huge meal out of the dive whilst the thug would kick the hell out of him. what indecission that would cause united fans in trying to decide who was in the wrong and what the punishment would be.

  11. Rooney does have a hot temper, I wouldn't dispute that this may have been deliberate.

Lest we forget Gazza's infamous elbow to the face of george boateng, when gazza actually broke his own arm in doing so, lol

  12. The boy apologised, isn't that enough to prove that there was no malice in the incident? Why do people hate success so much? Some of you should improve your lives and leave players who are earning millions (whether they are suspended or not) alone. I thought that was what true fans did...not hate.

its a game of football, he may or may not have stood on the guy, in a race for a ball what do you do stop still, dont forget the game 10 or 20 years ago when it was harder still and you could push the keeper or kick the guy as hard as you can and both would walk away.too mnay children on the field getting big money.
change the rules play hard, rooney keep doing what you do best playing football,

  15. He,s probably one of the most gifted all round players of are century ? but soon as Fergie tries to take the fire out of his belly he,s not going to be the same player.

But I think Fergie knows that ? I support Sunderland and even I no a gifted player when I see one ??

and I follow Rugby but no talent when I see it - so why dont UEFA just allow the refs to do there jobs - lets just take all the contact out of the sport all together and give them all hand bags.

  16. If Rooney did "stamped" his chest on purpose, well I suppose he won't have live to tell us about it. He should be in hospital bed dying. Well, get you axx up & play that fxxking ball. Show them your Champion League badge Rooney:)

    From henrckw001, on Fri 12 Dec 5:41AM
  17. Having watched this a couple of times on the TV replays I can honestly say that Rooney did nothing wrong, only a fool would see the incedent as deliberate.
