McLeish: Boyd deal appears dead

Tue 13 Jan, 10:30 AM

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has played down the prospect of making a breakthrough in his bid to sign Rangers striker Kris Boyd.On Monday, McLeish appeared to claim that talks over the proposed move had been resurrected but it later emerged Boyd's agent, Mark Donaghy, had not spoken to Blues since last week.

The proposed £3.75million transfer broke down over personal terms and McLeish admits a deal looks highly unlikely.

However, the former Rangers boss will not give up all hope of signing Boyd, 25, until work to bring in another striker comes to fruition.

"The deal would appear to be dead but people in football change their minds all the time," McLeish told the Daily Record.

"I can't change anything about the offer we originally put to Kris. If he doesn't want the terms we offered him, I'll walk away.

"I haven't spoken to Mark Donaghy since our meeting last week.

"But I can't say the Boyd deal is finished until I do business elsewhere."

  13. this is a prime example of "GROSS MIS-MANAGEMENT". the club is in serious trouble and if nothing changes we'll not have a club to follow.(to be honest do you want to follow in this direction). the time for change was 2yrs ago, now its damage limitation for rangers. get murray, bain and smith out before there is no club to save.

    From criagkirk551, on Tue 13 Jan 6:38PM
  14. Why would no one want to buy a club that can take 200.000 people to England as an away support and many more that were watching all over the world i take it you are a celtic fan scslogistics . There are obvious problems at ibrox and yes it looks as if Mr Murry has run his course as the owner of rangers and that is having a knock on effect threw out the club if your chairman is'nt interested then why should anyone else be. Come on fellow bears its time to take a stand if we are in financial mess it is because of murry, bain, and smiths running of the club . Where is the future of the club heading we have a youth academy that produces not talent we are selling our best players there is no leadership on the business side of the club and we are getting left behind its time for change we are doing our bit its time the people in charge do theres.
