Game Spirit Option For Brook

Tue 13 Jan, 12:09 PM

Ashley Brook could return to action in the next few weeks after sustaining a cut leg at Kempton last month.

The 11-year-old was struck into when last of seven behind Fiepes Shuffle in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton over Christmas.

Winner of the William Hill Gold Cup at Exeter on his seasonal debut, Kevin Bishop's charge may reappear in the Game Spirit Chase, in which he was second two years ago, at Newbury on February 7.

"He had a bit of a wound on a hind leg last time, something struck into him. It wasn't deep, it was fairly superficial but it has taken a bit of time to heal over," said the Bridgwater-based handler.

"I think he jumped across Twist Magic, who must have struck into the outside of his back leg.

"He seems in pretty good form, but we haven't made up our minds yet where we are going to run.

"He's gone for the Game Spirit at Newbury before - it's just a matter if I can find anything else more suitable.

"And if he's in good form we'll try to go for the Queen Mother at Cheltenham."

Ashley Brook is generally available at 50-1 for the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase on March 11.
