Premier League - Arsenal consider £12m Arshavin bid

Arsenal are reported to be ready to make an improved £12m bid for Zenit St Petersburg's Andrei Arshavin after the Russian international openly stated his desire to move to the north London club.

Arshavin is keen to leave Zenit in this month's transfer window, and though Manchester City have also been linked with a deal the player himself has made clear his desire to move to the north London side.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with the Russia forward, and are thought to have been in negotiations after having had an initial £10million bid turned down. Latest reports now suggest that Arsene Wenger is preparing to make an improved £12m bid this week.

Arshavin himself has been quoted as saying believes he would be well suited to Arsenal as they play a similar style of football to Zenit.

"In some games last season, we played football which was very similar to that of Arsenal," the 27-year-old said in the Daily Telegraph.

Arshavin's favoured shirt is taken at Arsenal by William Gallas, but he added: "I would prefer my present No 10 but in the team where I hope to move it's not vacant. So I'm ready for any number they are going to offer me."

  18. Not worth £12M....very few players are worth that and someone has already pointed out, Arsenal are the only team bidding. If the player wants to play for Arsenal so much...surely the first bid was enough money and Arshavin can buy himself out of his current contract!?

  19. wait a minute arsene wenger your a star buy andrei arshavin he will be sutaible for arsenal as we have a lot of injuris like fabrgas, walcott and rosicky so we need him. the only thing i dont like about arsene wenger is that he put on all the young players for cup games like burn;ey when we lost 2-0 he should of pu a decent team on but hey he wants the young gooners to have a go

  20. Being an Arsenal fun, i think the signing of Arshavin will strengthen our team a bit. I think we also need to tighten our defence by buying a realiable goalkeeper and some experience defenders because we do conceive goals that are not expected of us. All the same Gud luck.
