Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has acknowledged Manchester United are favourites to win the Premier League title this season.
Torres's Reds currently sit top of the table, but United enhanced their credentials with a 3-0 demolition of title rivals Chelsea last weekend.
United can move above Liverpool in the table if they win their two games this week against Wigan and Bolton - and Torres accepts their arch-rivals are now in the driving seat.
"They're the clear favourites to win the title," said Torres. "We're working hard to compete with them and finish above them and we're on course to achieve that.
"We know it's possible for us to win this season but we have to fight to the very end to do so.
"It's obvious that we know all about them. They are the champions of Europe and the world.
"We know the class they have in their team. They have some of the best players in the world."
Torres, who finished third to United star Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the FIFA World Player of the Year award on Monday, admits the showdown between the two clubs at Old Trafford on March 14 could prove decisive.
"I think the game at Old Trafford will decide the title," noted Torres. "If everything goes as we expect then we will go there in a similar position to now.
"We will have to play our game to try and get a result in a ground, which in the last few years has not been good for Liverpool."
Torres refused to get involved in the war of words between Reds boss Rafa Benitez and United chief Sir Alex Ferguson following the Spaniard's outspoken attack on the Scot last week.
Torres added: "The managers make remarks. They have their reasons for that but I won't be looking at them."

Nice one alanjardine1 but a brain would be no good to a scouser so i'm pretty sure I still have mine.
I am very surprised that no one has noticed Torroes has just joined in the mind game trying to minimise the strength built up by MAN Ure and the BIG BULLY (that is Fergie) which is good. God bless you LFC!!
Those who believe in the words of Torres are purely gullible and they are mostly MAN Ure Fans. Come on - how often do you see Torres answer to the journalist? He is a quiet boy.
lee h why dont you ask the scouser who stole your brain to give it back you are a total @#$% what has regions of were people live got to do with football
come on wigan . come on hesky. manu have a hard game tomorrow. dont forget there 2 games behind. i hear manu like coming from behind lol. they might get 3rd this season.
All you people make Torres sound like the greatest thing to touch a ball, but come on he has one skill . . . he's fast. look at the majority of his goals long ball to him or him on a break and drawing the keeper and passing it to himself. Sure he's what Liverpool need in a striker but that doesn't make him a god.
and i suppose man utd players have never done nothing wrong in there lives then
lee h you @#$%
scousebazz im erolflinn there's nothing little about me!
Oh yes! erolflinn can handle some liverpoop fans for me. Keep going as I go to the gym.
The only thing you can learn from a Scouser is Theft.
Liverpool's midfield will have a gap in it soon.
Stevie GBH is going Walton, even better send him to Strangeways.
My laptop cant tolerate these rotten stuff any longer. When I'm gone, keep your Torres in the wallet and stick his wallpaper on your dressing mirror so that you can see yourself in him every morning.
Manchester fans are gonna kick some L'@#$% when I'm gone....this I'm sure.
Manutd fans have been named the fans of the year!
erolflinn..true Stoke played well against us, but if you are so good how come you are not miles ahead? I think you are a worried little boy and so you should be.
And by the way the correct English is TOO not TO..see you can learn a lot from a Scouser!
Every psycho who's posting bad comments stands a chance for procrastination or castration.
scousebazz stoke were not to worried hhahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
torres loves gerrad gerrard loves torres liverpool bumboys!
You ManUre fans are very noisy on here...how come the ground is so quiet?
Torres is always seen with a fit bird, dark hair, a tan and falls down a lot..its Ronaldo!!
You must be right.
Think you mancs are worried tho' and lets face it Gerrard, Alonso and Masch is a better midfield than Giggs, Fletcher and Carrick. Worried..you should be!!
Torres is correct, Man Utd are clear favourites, of coarse they have to win their 2 games to be on top of the table. Yes Liverpool will need to fight to the end, but they have to win games, not draw! you have the chance to extend your lead but instead you keep on having draws, especially during Christmas till New Year and during the last game, stoke is a good club but they are way better than them and they blew it! so anything with that kind of performance (DRAW result) will be game over. 2 Draws and you're done. yet Man Utd has to win it to maintain it. but Man Utd will still have the edge.
Atleast he got one thing right, United will win the league. He does look like Rafa's rent boy though.
Actually he does look gay... sorry. I can't believe I put a 100 quid on the premier league's top fairy :(
Ronaldo is the another michael jackson in football
