Birmingham are to restructure their scouting network and Paul Montgomery has been reunited with manager Alex McLeish to oversee the project.Montgomery previously worked with McLeish at Rangers and also had spells as a coach with West Ham and Newcastle.
McLeish will retain Bernard Paintin as chief scout and he will work closely with Montgomery to help identify young talent in this country and abroad.
McLeish said: "Paul has vast experience and a wealth of excellent contacts abroad.
"We hope appointing him will take the club to the next level in terms of our scouting and save hundreds of thousands of pounds, if not millions, spent on players.
"We will be looking to identify and bring in young players whilst at the same time seeing if we can find others who will enhance the team but not cost an arm and a leg."
Montgomery was also employed as West Ham's European scout and worked with Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle.
