Disley steals points for Pirates

Wed 13 Feb, 12:03 AM

Craig Disley headed home an injury-time winner to give Bristol Rovers a deserved 1-0 victory over Oldham at the Memorial Stadium in League One.The home side created a host of late chances and finally broke through when substitute Sean Rigg produced a left-wing cross for Disley to glance past Mark Crossley.

Goalkeeper Crossley had kept Oldham in the game with brilliant late saves from Rigg, Chris Lines and Stuart Campbell.

Rovers also hit the crossbar through a Craig Hinton header as the closing minutes brought more chances than the rest of the game.

Oldham's best opportunity fell to Craig Davies after 20 minutes, but his close-range volley lacked the power to beat Steve Phillips.

Rickie Lambert and Andy Williams wasted chances for Rovers created by lively winger David Pipe, but in the end pressure told and the home side can look forward with confidence to representing League One in the FA Cup fifth round at home to Southampton on Saturday.
