Martinez praises Bodde bravery

Wed 13 Feb, 01:00 PM

Swansea boss Roberto Martinez hailed the bravery of match-winner Ferrie Bodde after the midfielder's goal sank Walsall at the Liberty Stadium.Bodde shrugged off a nasty-looking knee injury to fire home a 53rd-minute strike that gave League One leaders Swansea the win and boosted their promotion hopes.

Martinez said: "It showed the determination of the player. The easiest thing for him was to go off. He had three studs in his knee.

"I did fear the worst but the first thing he did after treatment was to score with a fantastic strike.

"I was pleased. It was a difficult challenge and Walsall are well organised. All credit to them, we restricted them to little and could have won it earlier than we did.

"Their goalkeeper had a good game but we always looked in control. Nobody is getting carried away and we will keep our feet on the ground."
