Glenn Poole's double stretched Brentford's unbeaten run to eight games with a 2-1 win away to Barnet in League Two on Tuesday night. The midfielder scored either side of the break to see off Paul Fairclough's men at Underhill but the visitors had to play out the final 40 minutes with 10 men after Gary Smith saw red.
Adam Birchall grabbed a consolation goal in injury time but it was not enough to rescue Barnet.
The hosts, who had won just one of their previous four games in all competitions, should have taken an early lead but found Brentford goalkeeper Ben Hamer in top form.
Hamer made smart saves from Albert Adomah and Birchall before Poole grabbed the opener in the 37th minute. However, Barnet were handed a lifeline when Smith was sent for an early bath by referee Dean Whitestone.
Poole wrapped up the points from the spot 11 minutes from time after Ricky Shakes had been tripped by Neal Bishop, but Birchall ensured a nervous ending for the visitors after latching onto Adomah's pass to slot home.
