Wed 13 Feb, 04:15 PM

Cheltenham manager Keith Downing will speak to Bristol City about extending Steve Brooker's loan spell following his last game against Swindon.Brooker has been on loan at Cheltenham for a month in a bid to rediscover his match fitness after several months out following knee surgery.

City boss Gary Johnson has hinted that the 26-year-old could return to Ashton Gate, but Downing would like to prolong his stay in Gloucestershire.

"Steve Brooker's loan is now up but I will be speaking to Bristol City. Hopefully we can do another month because I am keen to keep him," said Downing. "He is obviously interested in going back to Bristol City if he is going to feature in their first-team, but if not he wants to play as much competitive football as he can.

"He got another 90 minutes under his belt (against Swindon) with some good link up play with Steven Gillespie and Paul Connor."

Of his side's 3-0 defeat at Swindon, Downing added: "The scoreline didn't do our performance justice as we created one or two very good chances, but it was ultimately individual errors which cost us."
