Trollope: Win will lift spirits

Wed 13 Feb, 03:00 PM

Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope insists the win over Oldham was perfect preparation ahead of the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Southampton. The Pirates kept their play-off hopes alive with Craig Disley's injury-time header to earn a 1-0 victory.

Southampton visit the Memorial Stadium on Saturday, and Trollope said: "It was important to win after losing our unbeaten run at Doncaster and the lads are in good spirits.

"Our league position is very important to us and we are moving in the right direction. The cup run has meant a lot of games and the lads have shown their fitness levels again.

"We are the underdogs (against Southampton) and we will have to be right on our game individually and collectively, but we will be positive and go into the game in good form.

"Our pitch will be interesting for Southampton to play on and they won't fancy coming here. If they have an off day and we play as we can we can reach the quarter-finals."
