MANCHESTER (AFP) - Dietmar Hamann has been rewarded for his role in Manchester City's revival under Sven-Goran Eriksson this season with a new one-year deal at the Premier League club.
The veteran German midfielder, City's man of the match in Sunday's derby win over Manchester United, will now be at Eastlands until at least the end of next season.
Hamann, 34, joined City in 2006 on a free transfer from Liverpool. His first season at the club was blighted by injuries but he has been a key performer since Eriksson took charge with Sunday's match being his 28th of this campaign.
Hamann is one of the most experienced players in the Premier League having played a decisive role in Liverpool's Champions League victory in 2005 as well as being a member of the Germany team that lost the 2002 World Cup final to Brazil.
City are currently seventh in the Premier League table, three points adrift of fourth-placed Everton, who occupy the final qualifying spot for next season's Champions League.
