France have filed a protest after their Fed Cup defeat by China this month, saying it was not normal that one of the Chinese players had left before the end of the tie.

France have written to the International Tennis Federation to protest, French federation technical director Patrice Dominguez said.

"It's a way of showing that we disagree with the fact that a player can leave an unfinished tie with the result still in doubt," Dominguez said. "In addition she (Peng Shuai) did not attend the doping control on the Sunday night."

France lost the tie in Beijing 3-2.
