@Great Eddie, Nadal Nr1? really? he wont win Roland Garos this year, he will be out at least 1 month depending on the risks he take he may go on and miss R Garos or miss the build up wich mean at best he will go out in the 1 /2, I wonder than how come he will en up Nr 1.
Hey Eurosport, you need to update the little box with the ATP rankings too, on the right side of the site. It is out of date.
Yes, Nadal could lose the #2 but none of the top 4 are guaranteed. Nole has a lot of points to defend. He just lost 750 at Indians wells and could easily lose more in Miami. If he gets knocked out early at the French and Wimbledon he could really tumble in the standings. My prediction for year end rankings are:
1. Rafael Nadal
2. Roger Federer (very close 2nd)
3. Novak Djokovic
4. Andy Murray
nadal is in danger of losing his no. 2 spot.....
Thanks Paul. I will check out the other sites and see if i can make head or tail of it. I still say it would be better to start with a clean sheet each year. Thanks for your time.
@pauline. Hi. Go on the ATP we page and on the rankings page, click on a players points, it will show the dates they drop. This is part of the reason the points never seem to make sense. Another website which is good is ATP rankings live which shows you day by day how the rankings changes which is fun to look at alongside the official list which only changes every fortnight I think. This website also shows you the race to London points which illustrates how the players hv done from a zero standing start. This gives a real picture based on tournament success from Jan 1. Fed gained 250 from Rotterdam as didnt play last yr, and only 200 from Dubai as finalist last yr. Novak and Nadal will drop a lot of points a over next 2/3 weeks due to their success in IW and M. Actually Murray has most to gain as. Did so poorly last spring and cld pick up a lot.
@andrew. Hi They don't really " keep"them as they do drop and they hv to re earn them. It also reflects the fact that the top 4/5 always make the QF/SF and F 's . That is how someone like Ferrer always does well although he has never won a slam so in fact the points system rewards someone like him very well as he plays a lot of tourneys and grafts all yr.
These rankings confuse me. How can David Ferrer have more points as he was defending Acapulco. He seems to have received 325 points extra this week. I feel that Federer should only have 8435 but has 8710 even though he only gained 200. Andy Murray and Djokovic seem to be right. Can someone explain these crazy rankings to me please.
The system is not bad, there are two ways, you go up or down depending on your results, so it depends on consistency! I did not see somebody wining 2 GS and being number 10 or 100!
The whole system of points on ATP is wrong. How can a player who decides to only play when double points are there for the taking get away with playing in a few tournaments. Other players play week after week and get no-where in the listings. All players should start off zero on Jan 1st and those those end up in the top eight will give a true reflection of who's the best. It is made easy for the top players to stay at the top by letting them keep points from the previous. They should play for their place, not rely on on results from the year before.
Yeah, Delpo has moved to No. 10. Very soon, we will see him in the top 5 again. He belongs there.
Thank you 'in-motion' but my question was regarding YTD points and was also for 16th January. I do understand the overall points for this week.
@pauline , andy lost some points because he didn't reach the final - he didn't defend the points from the past year -
Could someone explain to me why some players have more ytd points even though they have played the same as others eg. Tsonga and Ferrer have more points than say Andy Murray? Thanks
