Blues confirm Sunday summit

Mon, 13 Feb 10:57:46 2012

Chelsea have confirmed Roman Abramovich met with Andre Villas-Boas and his players after the squad were hauled in on their day off following the club's defeat at Everton.

The flight back from Saturday's 2-0 Barclays Premier League loss at Goodison Park saw manager Villas-Boas order his underperforming stars to turn up at the Blues' Cobham training headquarters on Sunday morning, where they were again greeted by Abramovich.

The club's billionaire owner, who is far from happy with recent results, spoke to both Villas-Boas and the players, having already spent almost every day last week inspecting the current regime at close quarters.

His presence, which has coincided with the Russian being available from a high-profile court case as well as a slump in Chelsea's results, has sparked speculation over Villas-Boas' future.

But the Blues boss and the club have continued to maintain the Portuguese's position is not under threat and that Abramovich's active interest is perfectly normal.

  1. AVB should:
1.Play Ivanovic at right back instead of Bosingwa.
2.Play Kevin at left attacking midfield, pushing Mata out to the middle.
3.Stop playing Esien because he's not the same anymore.
4.Leave out the defensive midfeilder role(because no one good can play there)
5.Play Torres more central and don't tell him to drift out wide. Get him in the box!
6.Sign a better right midfielder because we need someone better than Sturridge. He's good but we need someone who's better.
7.Stop playing from the back all the time.
    8.Play at a faster tempo.
    9.Be more urgent to score!

  2. i said months ago avb was not the man for the job. can't see us getting 4th in the league with him still in charge. you can't blame avb you got to blame the board for hireing him, what was they thinking young manager manager of porto in a league with no contest. the prem league is the toughest in the world. change the manager now or you will regret it at the end of the season. i have been a chelsea supporter for 55 years this side wont win a thing.

  3. 5 ian. by my calculations chelseas first eleven cost 141 million with drogba in for torres . with torres in in that would be 168 million. Man utds first eleven in fact cost 178 million . so who has tried to buy the title?

  5. I’ve been a Chelsea supporter for 50 years !!! AVB is not the man for Chelsea and does not have the experience for the premier leauge unless someone like Gus Hiddink comes in to oversee him….The squad they have is just not good enough..Out with Malouda, Mikel, Bosingwa, Meireles, Ferreira, Kalou and Drogba at the end of the season..Bring in players with flair, aggression and desire.

  6. I said it when AVB was contracted that he was not the rightful candidate for Blues job, now the chips are down he is fizzling out after frustrating the likes of Anelka and Alex whose Hight and size made smaller players in the premiership tremble. Now there is no fear of Chelsea again.AVB has demystified Chelsea, before it's too late let him bow out for either Hiddink or Morinho to take over. A stitch in time saves the cloth.

  7. Avb needs hiddink to help him out to the end of the season,he has said he would quit if hiddink became director of football but maybe that's the only way to get rid of him it seems di matteo has not much say in team affairs even he has looked at his options,Steve Clarke was superb as mourinho's no2 what did he have to do to take over the reigns full time he loved the club,I think abramovich has to stop listening to his cronies who know sweet f.a about footballing matters avb has to admit he needs help otherwise he will go like the rest of them

  8. For Martin @ post 8. I am a fan of LFC, albeit an ancient, retired, armchair fan these days. I take your point about Torres and I believe that it was this sulky, couldn't care less attitude that in part led to his ultimate departure from LFC. Other than LFC were not doing too well at the time, I'm not certain what his gripe was. On his day he could be up there with some of the greats. It now seems that as Chelsea are not doing too great, Fernando has reverted to type and become disinterested? Unfortunately it is a pity that we did not spend the fee particularly wisely. I think Carroll could possibly come good if only we played to his strengths. Henderson and Downing are a disaster and their non contribution out wide has had its impact on Carroll. Personally I hope Torres comes good, whether that will be at Chelsea or elsewhere only time will tell, but he is a talented player.

  13. Chelsea made a massive mistake signing Torres and for such a huge fee. Until Saturday I had only seen him on TV this season and he played some ok games and with a bit more luck could well have scored. The Torres who turned up at Everton was a petulant whinger who was a complete shadow of the player who graced Anfield. His attitude was awful, and it is little wonder he didn`t get a sniff of even a half chance. I wonder if AVB is being forced by the owner to play Torres , as he most certainly wouldn`t be considered based on Saturdays effort. This was alongside so many other Chelsea players who barely went through the motions , and whoever is in charge has a massive task on their hands to rebuild this team. The Chelsea fans vented their anger on the manager on Saturday, but I thought it was the players who let them down.

  14. AVB could well be a successful manager of Chelsea if he had a better ,more motivated squad. For a club with such a wealthy backer they have a squad that is lacking in quality. They are unusually ineffective in attack and their midfield has lost its bite. Something happened to Torres when he was playing in the World Cup and his form has been desperately poor ever since. He appears to have lost his pace and his eye for goal. Whether AVB lacks the ability to motivate his players I just do not know but his team look like they are short of confidence.

  16. chelsea are in a fight for a place in europe and looking at the way Spurs and arsenal are playing ..chelsea are NOT guaranteed a place ..
assuming Man city and United take places 1 and 2 ... its a fight for 3 and 4...
abramovitxch thought he could buy his way to dictate the EPL .. but Fergie knew better .. Chelsea are now a aging team .. where are the young talent from the youth program [ do they have one ?] ... Terry lost his speed , Lampard no ambition , drogba too old , Maluda ?, Torres a pig in a poke i think ..Mikel [ should have gone to united ] too late now ..
Chelsea could be in the doldrums for a season or two ...

  17. AVB too young too inexperienced.Chelsea need to cut him free today and either get the prodical son back or invest in Huddink.
Roman as the life long Chelsea fan i am you are cocking it up after doing so well.

chelsea cannot afford to miss out being in top 4 and allready you can see there are thousdands tickets left for FA CUP GAME on saturday why because the team play rubbish abd think we be out this weekend unless they wake up boswinger is just useless along with mikel muoloda ivanovic to slow lampard dont seem to like torres as he never pass to him and torres is out in the cold he not one the boys at chelsea should have brought carrol more a chelsea type player torres like mata is to class act

  20. The Board are concerned about advertising revenue above all and their own personal investment. The manager appears to have lost the squad and crucially the owner. Now is the time to sack the manager just ahead of last 16 of CL and FA cup and the run in to PL. It might buy CFC a few wins and they have to win the next 3 PL games to stand any chance of fourth place. Right now with this manager I cannot see them winning any games. He simply has no idea what he is doing and his best move would be to resign before he has a very public breakdown.
