Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd believes that sides could win promotion from the Championship with the lowest number of points ever this season. The Hornets have drawn their last five games but remain just four points behind leaders Bristol City ahead of the clash with second-placed Stoke on Saturday and Boothroyd believes that the competitive nature of the division will restrict the number of points needed.
He told Sky Sports News: "Ninety points gets you up consistently and anything from 85 upwards has got people up before.
"The way this league is going it could be that you'll need the highest amount of points ever to avoid relegation and the least amount to win promotion.
"That's how tight the league is this year and for that reason we have got to grab as many points as we can, stack them all up and hope that we'll be able to do it.
"We've been the team that comes from nowhere and now we are trying to gain promotion by being the team which everyone expects."
